Hofstra's Galton Headlines Preseason All-CAA Women's Soccer Team

RICHMOND, Va. (August 13, 2014) – Hofstra junior forward
Leah Galton, who received CAA Player of the Year honors last season, has been chosen as the CAA women’s soccer preseason Player of the Year for 2014 in voting by the league’s head coaches.
Galton scored eight goals and contributed a league-high 11 assists last season. Her 27 total points ranked third in the CAA. Along with the Player of the Year honors, Galton was selected to the All-CAA first team and the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region first team for the second year in a row. She is one of 63 Division I players on the Watch List for the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is awarded to the nation’s top player at the end of the season.
Joining Galton at forward on the preseason All-CAA women’s soccer team are William & Mary senior
Emory Camper, UNCW junior
Katrina Guillou, James Madison sophomore
Ashley Herndon and Hofstra senior
Sam Scolarici. Camper made the All-CAA first team in 2013 after leading the Tribe with 10 goals and 21 points. Guillou topped the Seahawks in goals (10), assists (6) and points (26) last season to earn a spot on the All-CAA first team. Herndon contributed six goals and seven assists for the Dukes and was chosen as the 2013 CAA Rookie of the Year. Scolarici earned first-team All-CAA honors after ranking 10
th in Division I with a school-record 18 goals. Her league-high 38 points also set a new Hofstra record.
The midfield features four returning all-conference honorees. UNCW senior
Stephanie Bronson tallied five goals and two assists for the Seahawks last year and made the All-CAA first team. Delaware junior
Emily Market was a third-team All-CAA honoree after scoring three goals and assisting on one. Hofstra junior
Jeannine Molleda had five goals and five assists a year ago and was also a third-team All-CAA pick. Hofstra sophomore
Jill Mulholland contributed six goals and five assists in 2012 to earn a spot on the All-CAA first team, but missed most of last year due to injury.
The preseason All-CAA defense includes five players who received all-conference accolades in 2013. Drexel senior
Melissa Chapman and Delaware senior
Allegra Gray have both earned spots on the All-CAA first team for the past two seasons. William & Mary senior
Emily Fredrikson has made the All-CAA second team three times in her career, while Northeastern senior
Bianca Calderone and JMU senior
Shannon Rano were second-team selections in 2013.
Rounding out the team is William & Mary junior goalkeeper
Caroline Casey, who was chosen to the All-CAA first team last season after leading the league in goals against average (0.91), save percentage (.813) and shutouts (6).
The 2014 CAA women’s soccer season gets underway on Friday, August 22.
