CAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WEEKLY REPORT - NOV. 16 (pdf)

RICHMOND, Va. (November 15, 2015) –
College of William & Mary junior Marlena Tremba was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Towson’s Sianni Martin and Northeastern’s Gabriella Giacone were named the Rookies of the Week.

Junior Marlena Tremba recorded a career-high 26 points in the Tribe's 76-74 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Friday night in the season opener. Her 26 points were the most ever by a Tribe player in a season opener in the school's Division I era, and the fourth most all-time. Tremba finished the night shooting of 9-of-12 from the floor, and 5-of-7 from behind the arc. She added four rebounds, four assists, and a pair of steals in the victory.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Sianni Martin • Towson

Guard Sianni Martin had an impressive start to her Towson career. She posted 18 points, five assists, four steals and two rebounds in the season opener at Rider. She was 8-for-14 (.571) from the field. Martin hit two three-pointers, helping the Tigers tie the school record for three-pointers in a single-game (12). She had just two turnovers in 33 minutes of action for an assist to turnover ratio of 2.5.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Gabriella Giacone • Northeastern

Freshman forward Gabriella Giacone recorded two double-digit scoring games to help Northeastern to a 2-0 weekend on the road. Giacone averaged 12.5 points on 52.2 shooting (12-of-23) and 5.0 rebounds. In her collegiate debut at Boston University, she tallied 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting, and had four rebounds and three steals. At Siena, Giacone posted 11 points, six rebounds and three assists in the victory.
 
 
#CAAHoops – The Week that Was
The CAA had a good showing during the opening weekend of play, going a combined 10-2 over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. On opening night, the CAA was a perfect 6-0.

College of Charleston (1-0): The Cougars opened the year with a 55-48 victory over Houston. Bre Bolden tallied 19 points, six rebounds and tied a career-high with four assists. Rookie Darien Huff notched 11 points, four boards and four assists in her first collegiate start.

Delaware (1-0): The Blue Hens improved to 21-3 all-time in season openers at home with a 67-47 victory over Lafayette. Senior Courtni Green led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 from behind the arc. Freshman Nicole Enabosi registered double-double (11pts, 10reb) after getting the starting nod in her collegiate debut.

Drexel (1-1): The Dragons split their Preseason WNIT games over the weekend. Drexel began the season by knocking off Dartmouth, 69-53, in the opening round. Drexel then traveled to No. 20/19 South Florida where they were clipped 73-58. Senior Rachel Pearson averaged 18.0 points over the weekend, dropping in 21 points against Dartmouth and 15 against USF.
 
Elon (1-0): Sophomore Shay Burnett posted the first double-double (10pts, 11reb) of the season for Elon in its season-opening 67-29 win over Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday. Rookie Nikki McDonald led the Phoenix with a game-high 12 points, going 5-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and also posted five rebounds.
 
Hofstra (1-0): The Pride opened the season with a 65-63 win over Navy thanks to a steal and a lay-in by Darius Faulk with 13.5 seconds left in the game. Sophomore Ashunae Durant, the 2015 Rookie of the Year, picked up where she left off last season, tallying 17 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
 
James Madison: The two-time defending champion Dukes downed Longwood, 88-30, on Sunday in their season opener. Jazmon Gwathmey led the team with a career-high tying 22 points and added four blocks and three steals, both team highs. Rookie Savannah Felgemacher tallied a double-double (17pts, 12reb) in 19  minutes, becoming the first freshman to notch a double-double in a season opener under Head Coach Kenny Brooks.
 
UNCW (1-0): Junior Jordan Henry notched her first collegiate double-double to power the Seahawks to a 68-43 win over UNC Pembroke. Henry’s 15 points and 12 rebounds set career highs.
 
Northeastern (2-0): The Huskies opened the year with a pair of road wins to go 2-0 for the first time under Head Coach Kelly Cole. Senior Samantha DeFreese averaged 18.5 points and nine rebounds, including a 24-point effort at Boston University. At Siena, the Huskies saw four players in double digits, including 19 points from Claudia Ortiz.
 
Towson (0-1): The Tigers were edged 78-72 in their season opener at Rider. Towson tied the school record with 12 three-pointers made, that tied the record set last year against Northeastern. Dominique Johnson led the way with seven three-pointers in the game while three other Tigers made at least one. Johnson finished with 22 points.

William & Mary (1-0): The Tribe opened the season with a 76-74 victory over Mount St. Mary’s on the road. Junior Marlena Tremba recorded a career-high 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Sophomore Abby Rendle swatted away four shots while rookie Bianca Boggs tallied seven points and three rebounds in her collegiate debut.
