RICHMOND, Va. (November 4, 2015) – Hofstra senior forward Leah Galton was chosen as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Soccer Player of the Year for the third consecutive season in voting by the league's head coaches.

William & Mary senior goalkeeper Caroline Casey was named the CAA Defender of the Year while Drexel forward Vanessa Kara was named the CAA Rookie of the Year. UNCW Head Coach Paul Cairney was named the CAA Coach of the Year.

Galton is the first player CAA history to earn three consecutive Player of the Year honors and is only the fifth to garner multiple honors. The four-time All-CAA First Team honoree is second in the CAA in goals (11) and points (28) through 17 games this season. Galton, who was the 2012 CAA Rookie of the Year and the 2013 and 2014 CAA Player of the Year, ranks ninth all-time on the CAA career points chart (120), 10th in goals (47) and 11th in assists (26). She owns Hofstra’s career points record and is three goals shy of the team’s goals record.

Casey, also an All-CAA First Team honoree, has been backstopping a William & Mary defense that has posted 10 shutouts in 18 games this season. She has been credited with nine of those shutouts and has a league-leading 0.65 goals against average. Casey, who has played 1660 minutes this season, leads the CAA and is ranked 25th in NCAA Division I in save percentage (.859). For her career, she is tied for third on the CAA’s all-time shutouts chart (27) and is fifth in career GAA (0.88). Casey is the first William & Mary player to be named Defender of the Year since 2009 when Diana Weigel earned the honor.

Kara had an impressive debut for the Dragons, leading all CAA rookies with 11 goals and 24 points, which also set the program records. In addition, she earned a spot on the All-CAA Second Team and became the first Drexel player to be named Rookie of the Year. Kara, who started all 18 games for Drexel, was named the CAA Rookie of the Week three times, including the final two awards of the season.

Cairney, who earns his third CAA Coach of the Year honor, guided UNCW to a record-setting 2015 campaign. The Seahawks are 14-5-1 overall, which set the program record for wins in a season, and had a 6-2-1 mark in league play. UNCW is one of the top offensive teams in the country, ranking 10th in Division I in scoring offense. The Seahawks are also fourth in the nation in total goals (48) and seventh in total points (135).

Hofstra, the CAA Regular Season Co-Champions, had two players named to the All-CAA First Team in Galton and redshirt-junior midfielder Jill Mulholland, who is eighth in the CAA in points (7g, 3a).

In addition to Casey, William & Mary, the CAA Regular Season Co-Champion, had two other players make the All-CAA First Team. Senior midfielder Nicole Baxter, who is second in the CAA in assists (7), and junior defender Clara Logsdon (2g, 1a) each garnered All-CAA honors for the first time.

UNCW placed three on the All-CAA First Team, including the league’s leading scorer Maddie McCormick, who has 14 goals and 33 points during her senior season, which ranks her 15th in the nation. McCormick was joined by redshirt-senior midfielder Stephanie Bronson (6g, 4a) and senior defender Morgan Leyble (3g, 2a).

James Madison junior forward Ashley Herndon received an All-CAA First Team nod for the second consecutive season. Herndon is second in the CAA in goals with 11 this season, seven of which have been game-winners. She is also tied for second in points with 28. Northeastern sophomore Hannah Lopiccolo (6g, 1a) earned her second consecutive All-CAA First Team selection while Husky junior defender Mackenzie Dowd (6g, 2a) was named to the First Team for the first time.
