CONFERENCE NOTES:
24-6 STRETCH ADDS TO STRONG NON-CONFERENCE SHOWING: CAA teams have combined for a 24-6 record against non-conference competition over the past two weeks. The CAA has performed well in non-conference action all season with the league’s 10 squads combining for a 57-30 overall record. Making the numbers more impressive is the fact that less than 45% of those games have been at home. CAA teams have been dominant (33-6) at home and are 19-17 in true road contests. UNCW (5-1) was one of the final 10 unbeaten teams in Division I before falling 87-82 at Georgetown last Saturday. Towson (7-3) has won six straight games for the third year in a row and James Madison (8-3) is on a six-game win streak for the first time since 2010-11. College of Charleston (7-2) has captured five in a row and is off to its best start since 2011-12.
FOUR CAA TEAMS AMONG TOP 80 IN LATEST RPI: Four CAA teams are ranked among the top 80 in the latest RPI report released by Collegiate Basketball News (rpiratings.com) on Dec. 14. The Huskies are a perfect 3-0 at home this season and handed 15th-ranked Miami its only loss this season, 78-77, on Nov. 27 in Coral Gables. The contest is part of the Northeastern Winter Showdown, which also includes MSU and NU meeting in women’s basketball on Nov. 18 and in men’s ice hockey on Nov. 19.
SEVERAL NON-CONFERENCE TESTS AHEAD: Northeastern’s clash with #1 Michigan State on Saturday is one of several contests against nationally ranked foes for CAA teams over the next two weeks. Delaware makes the short trip to #12 Villanova on Dec. 22 and Elon meets #7 Duke on Dec. 28.
