Kelly McCarthy
RICHMOND, Va. (December 2, 2016) – For the second straight season, Elon University sophomore
Nick Ciolkowski was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year. Northeastern University’s
Chance Lamberth was named the CAA Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year.
In his first year at the helm, William & Mary’s
Chris Solinsky was named CAA Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. Solinsky guided the Tribe men’s team to their 17th consecutive CAA Championship and 24th overall.
Ciolkowski claimed the CAA Championship individual title for the second straight year, posting a time of 25:08.10 for a 13-second victory. He earned Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet and All-CAA honors for the second consecutive season. He also earned CAA Runner of the Week honors thrice during the season. He ran the second-fastest time (24:16) in school history at the Greater Louisville Classic and finished sixth overall. Last season, Ciolkowski became the first student-athlete to be named CAA Athlete and Rookie of the Year in the same year.
Lamberth was the top freshman finisher at the CAA Championship, clocking a time of 25:45.52 to place ninth and earn All-CAA honors while helping the Huskies to a second-place team finish. As one of the top Huskies all season long, he helped NU to a pair of team titles at the New England Championships, their first in 40 years, and the IC4A Championships. He was the top CAA freshman to finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional, placing in the top-60. Lamberth is the first NU runner to be named CAA Rookie of the Year and only the third to win a major award; Eric Jenkins and Wesley Gallagher were named in the Runner of the Year in 2011 and 2103, respectively.
The top-12 finishers at the CAA Championships earned All-CAA honors.
