CAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WEEKLY REPORT - December 19 (pdf)
RICHMOND, Va. (December 19, 2016) - College of William & Mary senior Marlena Tremba earned her second Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor of the season while Drexel University's Ana Ferariu picked up CAA Rookie of the Week.

Senior Marlena Tremba continued to have the hot hand, averaging 17.0 points on 66.7 percent shooting, as William & Mary extended its winning streak to eight consecutive games. Tremba went 12-for-18 from the floor, including 8-of-14 (.571) from three-point range. She also handled the ball well, committing just one turnover while dishing four assists in two games. Against Norfolk State, Tremba turned a game-high 15 points, while adding three rebounds and three assists. She went onto score a game-high 19 points with three steals and a pair of rebounds as the Tribe topped Mount St. Mary's on Sunday. Tremba, who has been in double-figures in all but one game this season, leads the team in scoring (13.9) while adding 2.3 rebounds a night, 24 assists, 12 steals, and a block.

Rookie Ana Ferariu provided a spark off the bench in Drexel's win against Saint Joseph's on Sunday. Having played limited minutes in just three games entering Sunday, Ferariu checked in during the second half against the Hawks and delivered 18 points in 13 minutes. She went 5-for-6 from the field and 7-for-8 from the foul line. She capitalized on opportunities in key situations to shift the momentum towards the Dragons. She added four rebounds and a late steal that helped lock up the victory.



#CAAHoops - The Week that Was

Charleston (2-7): The Cougars had a pair of tough road losses to No. 8 Louisville and Western Kentucky last week. Bri Boyd made a splash in her CofC debut against Louisville, tallying 14 points and 10 rebounds. Bre Bolden dropped in 23 points with five steals against Western Kentucky.

Delaware (6-4): The Blue Hens have been off since December 11 and are set to resume play on December 21 against Hartford. Head Coach Tina Martin goes for career win No. 399.

Drexel (6-2): The Dragons went 2-0 last week, topping Niagara, 69-57, before downing city rival Saint Joseph's, 60-49. Drexel moved to 5-0 at home and extended its winning streak to three games. Kelsi Lidge averaged 11.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game while rookie Bailey Greenburg added 8.5 points and 7.5 rebounds last week.

Elon (5-4): The Phoenix captured their only game of the week, knocking off East Tennessee State, 79-51, on the road. Four players scored in double figures including Shay Burnett, who had a game-high 19 points, and Ra'Shika White, who notched her first career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Hofstra (6-3): The Pride has been off since December 10 and returns to the court on December 22 at Saint Joseph's.

James Madison (5-3): The Dukes have been off since December 5 and gets back on the hardwood on December 21 at St. John's.

UNCW (4-5): The Seahawks split games against a pair of SoCon foes last week. UNCW topped Furman, 56-52, but was clipped by Wofford, 71-67. Madison Raque averaged 10.5 points while Rebekah Banks notched consecutive 10-rebound games. The Seahawks will play their third game in five games on Monday night, hosting Catawba.

Northeastern (2-8): The Huskies fell at Michigan State in its only game of the week. Sophomore Jess Genco paced Northeastern with 18 points, which included her 400th career point.

Towson (6-4): The Tigers have been off since December 11 and return to action on December 29 when they host Norfolk State.

William & Mary (8-1): The Tribe pushed its winning streak to eight games, knocking off Norfolk State, 65-62, and Mount St. Mary's, 68-46. Senior Marlena Tremba averaged 17.0 points on 66.7 percent shooting for the week while classmate Alexandra Masaquel averaged 11.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists. Abby Rendle collected 11 blocks on the week to bring her season total to 31. Rookie Victoria Reynolds had another solid week averaging 7.0 points per game and 3.5 rebounds in two wins.
