PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Spencer Parks • #9 Towson University
Senior | Attack | Fallston, Md./St. Paul’s School for Boys
Towson senior Spencer Parks produced a seven-point week, finishing with four goals and three assists to help the Tigers to a 2-0 week. Parks struck pay-dirt on four of his eight shots, six of which were on frame. Parks provided the game-winning assist in the Tigers’ overtime win at Ohio State on March 15. He finished the night with four points on two goals and two assists. On Saturday, Parks tallied two more goals and picked up an assist in the win against Furman to help Towson improve to 7-1 this season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Buddy Carr • #18 UMass
Sophomore | Attack | Exeter, N.H./Exeter
UMass sophomore Buddy Carr scored three goals, all in the second half, in the 11-9 upset of No. 20 Penn State in Happy Valley, Pa. Carr scored on each of his three on-target shots with the final one going down as the game-winner for the Nittany Lions. UMass clung to a 6-5 lead at halftime and, following the break, Carr promptly bumped the lead to 7-5 with a goal only 1:42 into the third quarter. Carr added an unassisted tally to increase the margin to 9-6 with 2:11 left in the frame when he raced around the cage from X and shoveled in an underhanded shot as he was being checked. His third score of the day came early in the fourth quarter to push the UMass lead to 10-7 and help offset a PSU rally. The performance goes as Carr’s third hat trick of the season and his sixth multi-point game through eight contests.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Tom Meyers • #18 UMass
Freshman | Faceoff Specialist | Radnor, Pa./Radnor
In his first collegiate game as the No. 1 faceoff specialist, Tom Meyers won 16 of the game’s 24 faceoffs (66.7 percent) for UMass in the upset win over No. 20 Penn State. His 16 faceoffs won and 24 taken marked career highs for Meyers and marked the best single game faceoff percentage for the Minutemen this season. He out-dueled three different PSU faceoff specialists throughout the day and won and/or tied with Penn State for the quarter-by-quarter battle, going 5-7 in the first, 5-6 in the second, 3-6 in the third and 3-5 in the fourth. Meyers did not commit a faceoff violation and had three ground balls.
