RICHMOND, Va. (April 20, 2016) – William & Mary senior Elizaveta Nemchinov was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association women’s tennis Player of the Year for the second consecutive season by a vote of the league’s head coaches.

Also receiving top women’s tennis honors from the conference were William & Mary freshman Lauren Goodman, who was named CAA Rookie of the Year, and Elon’s Elizabeth Anderson, who was chosen as the CAA Coach of the Year.

Nemchinov capped an outstanding career with a strong senior season. She compiled an 18-8 record in singles for the 36th-ranked Tribe, which included four victories over ranked opponents. In doubles, she added 13 more wins with several partners. Nemchinov is currently ranked #108 nationally in singles and #77 nationally in doubles.  She is the first person to repeat as CAA Player of the Year since 2010 and is only the sixth player in conference history, and third from W&M, to receive the award multiple times.

Goodman posted an impressive 16-6 record in singles while playing primarily at the No. 3 position for the Tribe. She closed the regular season by winning nine of her last 10 matches. The freshman also contributed 11 victories in doubles. Goodman is William & Mary’s 10th CAA Rookie of the Year honoree and third in the last four seasons.

Anderson guided Elon to a 13-9 overall record, highlighted by an eight-match winning streak to end the regular season. The Phoenix were 5-1 in CAA competition to earn the #2 seed for the upcoming CAA Championship, and six of their nine losses were to nationally ranked opponents. The CAA Coach of the Year honor is the first for Anderson.

Joining Nemchinov on the All-CAA first team in singles was Elon sophomore Erica Braschi, William & Mary junior Marie Faure, College of Charleston junior Liza Fieldsend, Elon sophomore Olivia Lucas and UNCW sophomore Madara Straume.

Three doubles teams received first-team All-CAA honors as well. Chosen to the squad were W&M’s Faure and Nemchinov, UNCW senior Christine Kharkevitch and freshman Laura Gomez and College of Charleston senior Katherine Schofield and junior Mara Argyriou.

The 2016 CAA Women’s Tennis Championship gets underway on Thursday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on the campus of Elon University. The tournament runs through Sunday, with the women’s championship set for 2 p.m. on April 24.
