Adala Moto averaged 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds as Towson went 2-0 in CAA action last week. The senior forward scored a team-high 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Tigers beat Northeastern, 74-67, on Saturday to end the Huskies’ eight-game win streak. He also recorded his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds in an 83-56 triumph over Delaware. For the week, Adala Moto shot 50% from the floor and made 16-of-18 at the free throw line.

Flemmings averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals as UNCW stayed unbeaten in CAA play at 6-0 with two wins last week. The senior guard had a team-high 18 points, five rebounds and four assists as the Seahawks defeated William & Mary, 101-77, and followed with 18 points, four rebounds and three steals in an 84-76 triumph over Hofstra. For the week, Flemmings shot 54.5% from the floor.

CAA MEN'S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:

Riller averaged 19.5 points and was Charleston’s leading scorer in a pair of victories last week that improved the Cougars to 6-0 in CAA play. The freshman guard tallied 19 points in a 53-51 win at James Madison and followed with 20 points as CofC rallied past William & Mary, 77-67. For the week, Riller shot 54.5% (12-22) from the floor, including 5-of-10 from 3-point range. He’s scored double figures in his past three contests.

CONFERENCE NOTES:

CHARLESTON, UNCW MEET IN FIRST-PLACE SHOWDOWN:
The two teams tied atop the CAA standings will meet on Thursday night as UNCW visits College of Charleston. The 7 p.m. game will be televised by ASN. The Seahawks are 6-0 in CAA play for the first time ever, while the Cougars have a 6-0 conference mark for the first time since 2008-09 when they were members of the SoCon. The game features a contrast of styles as UNCW leads the CAA and ranks 12th nationally in scoring offense (87.4 ppg) and Charleston tops the CAA and ranks 6th nationally in scoring defense (59.7 ppg).

PILING UP THE WINS: UNCW’s 17 overall victories are tied for the second-most in the nation through games of Jan. 15. The Seahawks are tied with Villanova, Creighton, Gonzaga and New Mexico State, and trail only UCLA (18-1). Charleston’s seven-game winning streak is tied for the 7th-longest in the nation, while UNCW six-game win streak is tied for 16th. The CAA is one of only eight conferences to have two teams with at least 15 victories.

UNCW RANKED #31 IN LATEST RPI REPORT: UNCW is ranked #31 in the latest RPI rankings released by Collegiate Basketball News (rpiratings.com) through games of Jan. 15. The Seahawks (17-2) have captured 14 of their last 15 games, with the only loss coming on the road at ACC foe Clemson. College of Charleston (15-4) is #56 in the RPI and has won 12 of its last 13 contests, with the only setback coming on the road at SEC member LSU. Northeastern (12-6), which has won eight of its last nine games, is ranked #88. The Huskies have road wins at Michigan State, UConn, Vermont and Oakland. Only nine other conferences (American, ACC, Atlantic 10, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac 12, SEC and Sun Belt) have three schools in the top 90 of the RPI. The CAA is ranked #11 among the nation’s 32 Division I leagues.

CBS SPORTS NETWORK TO TELEVISE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: The CAA has signed an agreement with CBS Sports to have the title game of the 2017 CAA Men’s Basketball Championship televised live on CBS Sports Network. The contest will tip-off at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 6 from the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, S.C.

UNCW RECEIVES VOTES IN NATIONAL POLLS FOR 4TH STRAIGHT WEEK: UNCW was once again among other teams receiving votes in the national Top 25 rankings. The Seahawks (17-2) got six points in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. UNCW received 17 points in the USA Today Coaches poll, which placed them in a tie for 27th in the rankings.

College of Charleston

•    Have won seven in a row and 12 of their last 13 games after beating JMU (53-51) and W&M (77-67) last week. Off to their best start in conference play since 2009-10.

•    Freshman Grant Riller led CofC with 20 points vs. W&M and 19 points at JMU. He’s reached double figures nine times.

•    Joe Chealey scored 14 points vs. W&M and hit the game-winning shot with 24 sec. left at JMU. He’s tallied double figures in 8 of his last 9 games is 7th in the CAA with 15.3 ppg.

•    Jarrell Brantley posted his 5th double-double (17 pts/12 reb) vs. W&M. He’s scored double digits in 16 of 19 games and ranks 3rd in the CAA in rebounding (8.4 rpg).

•    Evan Bailey hit 3-of-5 threes and scored a season-high 11 points vs. W&M.

•    CofC has held 16 of 19 foes under 70 points and leads the CAA and ranks 6th nationally in scoring defense (59.7 ppg).

•    The Cougars rank 2nd in the nation in 3-point FG defense (27.9%).

Delaware

•    Dropped road games at Towson (83-56) and Drexel (76-60) last week.

•    Ryan Daly scored a team-high 17 points at TU and 13 points and a team-best 9 boards at DU. He’s tallied double digits in 10 of his last 11 games and tops UD in scoring (13.9 ppg) and rebounding (6.7 rpg).

•    Daly has been UD’s top scorer in 6 of the last 8 games and is averaging 17.7 ppg in conference play.

•    Anthony Mosley averaged 13.0 ppg last week, including a team-high 18 points at DU. He ranks 3rd in the CAA in steals (1.6 spg) and 12th in assists (2.7 apg).

•    Skye Johnson contributed 8 points, a team-high 6 rebounds and 3 blocks at TU.

•    Chivarsky Corbett added 8 points at Drexel and has scored at least 8 points in four of his last five games.

•    Darian Bryant scored 7 points at Drexel, which was his top scoring effort since Dec. 28.

Drexel

•    Topped Delaware 76-60 to end a 5-game slide after a 92-75 loss at Northeastern.

•    Sammy Mojica scored a season-high 18 points at NU and just missed a triple-double vs. UD with 9 points, a career-high 15 boards and a career-best 10 assists.

•    Rodney Williams scored 14 points at NU and a team-best 15 points vs. UD, which was his 7th straight game in double figures. He’s 3rd in the CAA in scoring (16.5 ppg), 6th in rebounds (6.7 rpg) and 4th in FG% (52.9%).

•    Miles Overton had 14 points at NU and 13 points vs. UD. He’s scored double digits in 6 straight games and is averaging 14.0 ppg over the 6-game stretch.

•    Kurk Lee had 11 points, 5 assists and 5 steals at NU and 12 points and 6 assists vs. UD. He ranks 13th in the CAA in scoring, 3rd in assists and 2nd in steals.

•    Austin Williams grabbed 8 rebounds at NU and scored 14 points on 6-7 shooting vs. UD. He ranks 4th in the CAA with 7.3 rpg and is shooting 62.9% from the floor.

Elon

•    Went 1-1 last week, defeating Hofstra (96-80) but falling at JMU (60-59).

•    Tyler Seibring scored a career-high 22 points vs. HU and followed with 17 points at JMU. He’s averaging 15.1 ppg over the past seven games and is 9th in the CAA with 6.4 rpg.

•    Steven Santa Ana hit five treys and scored a team-high 29 points vs. Hofstra. He’s averaging 19.5 ppg over his past four contests.

•    Brian Dawkins averaged 12.0 ppg and 6.5 rpg last week and has scored double digits in 9 of his last 10 contests. He’s shooting 53.6% from the floor and 51.9% from 3.

•    Dainan Swoope made 5-of-6 treys and scored 18 points vs. HU and dished out a team-high 6 assists at JMU. He’s scored double figures in 4 of the last 5 games and is averaging 12.6 ppg over that stretch.

•    Elon drained 14 threes vs. HU and 12 at JMU, which was its 10th game with at least 10 treys. Elon averages 10.1 treys per game, which tops the CAA and ranks 11th nationally. The Phoenix are shooting 38.3% from three in CAA play.

Hofstra

•    Suffered road setbacks at Elon (96-80) and UNCW (84-76) last week.

•    Deron Powers tallied a team-high 21 points and 8 assists at Elon and a team-best 20 points and 8 assists at UNCW. He has three 20-point outings this season and ranks 4th in the CAA in assists with 5.1 apg.

•    Justin Wright-Foreman scored 14 points at Elon and 13 at UNCW, which was his 9th straight game in double figures. He’s averaging 18.8 ppg over the 9-game stretch.

•    Rokas Gustys posted his 7th double-double (15 pts/16 reb) at UNCW. He ranks 2nd in the nation in rebounding (12.5 rpg) and has 13 games with 10+ boards.

•    Eli Pemberton contributed 16 points and a team-high 9 rebounds at Elon. He’s scored double digits in 5 of his last 8 contests.

•    Brian Bernardi made seven treys and averaged 12.5 ppg in the two games last week.

•    Hofstra has made at least 10 threes in nine games and is shooting 37.5% from the arc.

James Madison

•    Split a pair of nailbiters last week, losing 53-51 to CofC, but winning  60-59 over Elon.

•    Jackson Kent scored a team-high 21 points vs. Elon and a team-best 14 points vs. CofC, eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for his career. He’s had 7 straight double-digit games and is averaging 18.2 ppg over that stretch.

•    Yohanny Dalembert posted his first double-double (15 pts/career-high 17 reb) vs. Elon and had 13 points and 6 boards vs. CofC. He’s averaging 14.7 ppg and 9.0 rpg over the past three games.

•    Paulius Satkus scored 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting vs. Elon. He’s averaging 12.0 ppg over his last seven games and is 34-of-49 (69.4%) from the floor over that stretch.

•    JMU is allowing just 56.8 ppg in CAA play, which leads the league. The Dukes have held their past 8 opponents to 67 points or less, including four under 60 points.

•    JMU, which ranks 2nd in the CAA in rebound margin (+5.9 rpg), out-rebounded Elon 41-25 and CofC 35-28.

UNCW

•    Continued their best-ever CAA start with wins over W&M (101-77) and Hofstra (84-76) last week. Have won 14 of their last 15.

•    Denzel Ingram had 18 points and 6 assists vs. W&M and 20 points and 5 assists vs. HU, which was his 8th straight game in double figures. He tops the CAA with 3.4 3’s per game, is 2nd in assists and 6th in scoring.

•    Chris Flemmings scored 18 points vs. W&M and HU and is averaging 17.2 ppg over the past five games. He’s reached double digits in 21 of his last 24 contests.

•    C.J. Bryce had 18 points and 6 assists vs. W&M and posted a double-double (16 pts/10 reb) vs. HU. He’s tallied double figures in 15 straight games, ranks 2nd in the CAA in scoring and 8th in assists.

•    Devontae Cacok posted his 3rd straight double-double (14 pts/13 reb) vs. W&M. He’s 58-of-67 from the floor over the last 10 games and leads Div. I in FG percentage (81.5%). He’s 2nd in the CAA with 9.6 rpg.

•    UNCW leads the CAA in turnovers forced (16.7), turnover margin (+5.8) and steals.

Northeastern

•    Defeated Drexel 92-75 before having their 8-game win streak snapped in a 74-67 setback at Towson.

•    T.J. Williams had a career-high tying 30 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists vs. DU and scored a team-best 18 points at TU. He’s tallied double digits in all 18 games with 11 20+-point efforts. He tops the CAA in scoring (21.4 ppg) and assists (5.8 apg).

•    Alex Murphy added 15 points on 7-of-9 FG shooting vs. DU and had 13 points at TU. He’s 8th in the CAA in scoring (14.6 ppg).

•    Devon Begley scored 16 points with a career-high 9 assists vs. DU and had 15 points at Towson. He was 7-of-13 from 3-point range in the 2 games.

•    Max Boursiquot posted his first double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds against Drexel. He was 7-for-7 from the floor.

•    Freshman Shawn Occeus was 4-for-4 from 3-point range and scored 14 points vs. DU.

•    NU is shooting 45.9% from 3-point range in CAA play and 39.8% for the season.

Towson

•    Earned CAA victories over Delaware (83-56) and Northeastern (74-67) last week.

•    William Adala Moto scored a season-high 24 points with 7 rebounds vs. NU and posted his 3rd double-double of the season (12 pts/10 reb) vs. UD.

•    John Davis had 18 points and 9 rebounds vs. UD and scored 16 points vs. NU to go over 1,000 points for his career. He shot 70% (14-20) from the floor over the two games.

•    Brian Starr scored a career-high 18 points vs. UD on 6-of-8 FG shooting, including 3-of-3 from three. He also made 4 steals.

•    Deshaun Morman leads the CAA with 1.7 steals per game.

•    Jordan McNeil scored a season-high 9 points vs. UD and matched it with 9 points against NU. He was 7-of-10 from the floor.

•    Towson has out-rebounded 35 of its last 38 foes and tops the CAA in rebound margin (+7.0 rpg).

•    TU leads the CAA in FG% defense (40.7%) and is second in scoring defense (66.8 ppg).

William & Mary

•    Dropped road games at UNCW (101-77) and CofC (77-67) last week.

•    Omar Prewitt tallied team-highs of 25 points and 8 rebounds at CofC and had 12 points and 6 boards at UNCW. It was his sixth 20-point effort of the season.

•    Jack Whitman scored a career-high 21 points on 9-of-12 FG shooting at UNCW. He shooting 64.8% from the floor for the season.

•    Daniel Dixon added 10 points at UNCW, which was his 9th straight game in double digits, but didn’t play at CofC due to injury. He’s averaging 24.4 ppg in his last 5 games.

•    Freshman Nathan Knight had 10 points and 4 rebounds at UNCW and 8 points at CofC. The 10 points were his most since Dec. 16.

•    Greg Malinowski hit three treys and contributed 12 points and a team-best 8 rebounds at CofC. He’s shooting 44.3% from three.

•    Point guard David Cohn added 11 points, 4 assists and 3 steals at CofC. He’s 5th in the CAA in assists and 2nd in assist/TO ratio.
