CAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WEEKLY REPORT - JANUARY 16

RICHMOND, Va. (January 16, 2017) - Elon University senior Lauren Brown was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Basketball Player of the Week while James Madison's Kamiah Smalls earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time this season

Senior Lauren Brown led Elon in scoring to help the Phoenix remain undefeated in league play and extend their winning streak to nine games. Brown averaged 17.5 points on 50 percent shooting (11-for-22) from the field, which included eight three-pointers. She began the week with 16 points, two assists, a block and a steal in the road win at Charleston. In the win against Drexel, Brown recorded 19 points and two steals without turnover in 37 minutes of action. She sparked a crucial 11-2 run in the third period to help Elon pull away from the Dragons and then hit a key bucket late in the fourth quarter to help stave off a Drexel comeback. For the year, Brown is averaging 12.0 points per game.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Kamiah Smalls James Madison University

Freshman guard continued her strong play, averaging 12.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists last week. Smalls shots 58.3 percent from the floor, connecting on seven of the 12 shots she took and went 9-for-10 from the free throw line. In the win against Delaware, Smalls tallied six points and dished out a career-high five assists. She followed that up by tying a career-best with 18 points and eight rebounds to help the Dukes to the win over Northeastern. The four-time CAA Rookie of the Week has scored in double figures 12 times this season and is averaging 11.4 points and 5.6 rebounds.

#CAAHoops - The Week that Was

Charleston (5-11; 2-3 CAA): The Cougars had a pair of tough losses to Elon and Towson last week. Dajah Logan shot 54.2 percent for the week and averaged 14.0 points while senior Bre Bolden averaged a double-double with 12.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.

Delaware (8-8; 2-3 CAA): The Blue Hens split games last week, falling to James Madison before picking up the road win at Hofstra. Sunday's win marked the 400th for Head Coach Tina Martin. Sophomore Nicole Enabosi averaged 18.0 points and 14.5 rebounds last week, and extended her double-double streak to three games.

Drexel (12-4; 3-2 CAA): The Dragons split a pair of road games last week, downing UNCW before falling to Elon. Sarah Curran averaged 16.0 points for the week while Jessica Pellechio posted 12.0 points per game, which included 24 points against Elon.

Elon (13-4; 5-0 CAA): The Phoenix remained perfect in CAA play, picking up wins over Charleston and Drexel to extend their winning streak to nine games. The streak is the longest in the DI history of the Phoenix. Senior Lauren Brown led Elon in scoring in both games this week, averaging 17.5 points per game. The Phoenix not only completed the season sweep of Drexel on Sunday, but Head Coach Charlotte Smith picked up her 100th career victory.

Hofstra (8-7; 1-3 CAA): The Pride split games last week, notching their first CAA win of the year at Towson before falling at home to Delaware. Senior Krystal Luciano averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 assists per game while junior Ashunae Durant averaged 14.5 points and 13.5 rebounds.

James Madison (11-5; 4-1 CAA): The Dukes returned to the win column, with victories over Delaware and Northeastern. Precious Hall averaged 23.0 points and 9.0 rebounds for the week and brought her career point total to 1,879 which ranks her eighth all-time in CAA history. Kamiah Smalls averaged 12.0 points for the week while guard Hailee Barron has now gone 244 minutes without a turnover.

UNCW (5-11; 0-5 CAA): The Seahawks had a tough week, with losses to Drexel and William & Mary. Jordan Henry had a solid week, averaging 11.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Rebekah Banks continued to be solid on the glass, averaging 10.0 rebounds for the week.

Northeastern (6-11; 2-3 CAA): The Huskies dropped a pair of road games to William & Mary and James Madison. Senior Francesca Sally averaged a double-double for the week, with 15.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per games. Sally has notched double-doubles in each of her last three games.

Towson (9-7; 2-3 CAA): The Tigers split a pair of home games, falling to Hofstra before edging Charleston. Raine Bankston had a solid week, averaging 12.0 points and 5.0 rebounds.

William & Mary (13-2; 3-1 CAA): The Tribe went 2-0 on the week, topping Northeastern at home before picking up the road win at UNCW. Senior Alexandra Masaquel averaged 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds for the week and extended her double-digit scoring streak to 10 games. Rookie Victoria Reynolds averaged 7.0 points and 2.5 rebounds for the week.
