RICHMOND, Va. (November 13, 2017) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 11 of the 2017 season. Earning honors were Rhode Island junior quarterback JaJuan Lawson, New Hampshire junior linebacker Jared Kuehl, Maine sophomore wide receiver Earnest Edwards, and Towson freshman defensive back Coby Tippett.
 
CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week

Lawson completed 25-of-35 passes for a career-high 336 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for a TD in Rhode Island’s 20-6 victory over Villanova. The junior’s six-yard scoring run in the second quarter broke a 3-3 tie and he extended the margin with a career-long 71-yard TD pass late in third quarter. URI finished with a season-high 416 yards of total offense.

Kuehl contributed six tackles (five solo), 2.0 tackles for loss, a quarterback sack, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup as No. 18 New Hampshire edged No. 7 Elon, 16-6. The junior linebacker led a Wildcats’ defense that held the Phoenix to a season-low 31 yards rushing, forced three turnovers and didn’t allow a point until 3:16 was left in the game.
 
CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week

Edwards averaged 37.8 yards on five kickoff returns, including a 95-yard return for a touchdown in the first quarter, in Maine’s 44-31 setback to UMass. The sophomore, who leads the CAA with a 25.3 KOR average, finished the game with 238 all-purpose yards. It was his second career kickoff return for a TD.
 
CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Coby Tippett, Fr., DB, Towson (Sharon, Mass./Cheshire Academy)

Making his first career start, Tippett recorded a career-high 14 tackles and returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown in Towson’s 26-14 road win at William & Mary. Ten of the freshman defensive back’s tackles were solo. He averaged 24.7 yards on three punt returns and his TD on the punt was the first by a Towson player since 2015.
