Men's and Women's Tennis Weekly Honors - Feb. 15

RICHMOND, Va. (February 15, 2017) – The CAA has recognized six men’s and women’s tennis players for outstanding performances last week.
Elon sophomore
Felipe Sarrasague (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and the Phoenix duo of senior
Petar Tomic (Belgrade, Serbia) and senior
Chris Humphreys (Albuquerque, N.M.) earned CAA men’s tennis honors. Receiving accolades on the women’s side were Delaware freshman
Brooke Pilkington (Virginia Beach, Va.), and the Drexel tandem of junior
Clary Rodriguez Cruz (Gurabo, Puerto Rico) and junior
Ryshena Providence (Yeadon, Pa.).
Sarrasague was selected as the CAA men’s tennis Player of the Week after posting a 2-0 record at No. 1 singles in a pair of Elon victories. The sophomore rolled past Liberty’s Chase Burton, 6-0, 6-1, in a 5-2 team win over the Flames and then outlasted William & Mary’s Aidan Talcott, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 as the Phoenix beat the Tribe, 5-2. Sarrasague evened his season record at 4-4.
Tomic and Humphreys were named the CAA men’s Doubles Team of the Week after clinching the doubles point from the No. 2 position in both matches last week. They downed Liberty’s Ryker Heller and Eddie Gutierrez, 6-2, and pulled out a thrilling 7-6 (8-6) victory over William & Mary’s Tristan Bautil and Addison Appleby. Tomic and Humphreys are now 3-4 this season.
Pilkington was honored as the CAA women’s tennis Player of the Week after going 2-0 at No. 1 singles to lead Delaware to team wins over George Mason (7-0) and Navy (5-2). The freshman cruised past Mason’s Sydney Green, 6-0, 6-1, and followed with a hard-fought 6-1, 0-6, 6-1 triumph over Navy’s Amanda Keller. Pilkington is 3-1 in dual match competition this season.
Rodriguez Cruz and Providence were recognized as the CAA women’s Doubles Team of the Week after recording a 2-0 mark at No. 2 doubles as Drexel blanked Binghamton (7-0) and Colgate (4-0). They topped BU’s Olga Ostrovetsky and Paulina Tafler, 6-2, and beat Colgate’s Lauren O’Brien and Jordan Williams, 6-1. Rodriguez Cruz and Providence are 5-1 in dual matches this season.
