Men's and Women's Tennis Weekly Honors - March 8

RICHMOND, Va. (March 8, 2017) – The CAA has recognized six men’s and women’s tennis players for outstanding performances last week.
Elon sophomore
Felipe Sarrasague (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and the College of Charleston duo of junior
Juan Estevarena (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and junior
Vasily Kichigin (St. Petersburg, Russia) earned CAA men’s tennis honors. Receiving accolades on the women’s side were William & Mary senior
Marie Faure (Toulouse, France), and the Delaware tandem of graduate student
Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass.) and junior
Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill.).
Sarrasague was chosen as the CAA men’s tennis Player of the Week after recording a pair of victories at No. 1 singles for the Phoenix last week. He cruised past Campbell’s Nicolas Rakitin, 6-1, 6-1, as Elon picked up a 6-1 team win. In a 6-1 team setback to North Florida, Sarrasague knocked off 64
th-ranked Jack Findel-Hawkins, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8). The victories improved his dual match record to 9-5 this season.
Estevarena and Kichigin were selected as the CAA men’s Doubles Team of the Week after going 2-0 at No. 1 doubles in two Cougars’ victories in Louisiana. The duo defeated Nicholls’ Bernard Wezeman and Sam Meessen, 6-2, in CofC’s 6-1 team win, and then topped New Orleans’ Jeffrey Hsu and Luis Albuquerque, 6-3, as the Cougars blanked the Privateers, 4-0. The matches were the first two that Estevarena and Kichigin have played together during the spring.
Faure received CAA women’s tennis Player of the Week honors after clinching both Tribe team victories with wins at the No. 2 singles position. The senior upended Maryland’s Ekaterina Tour, 6-3, 6-4 to seal W&M’s 4-3 triumph over the No. 43 Terrapins, who entered the match undefeated. She also rolled over Western Michigan’s Katja Fevralev, 6-2, 6-4 as the Tribe beat the Broncos, 7-0. Faure is now 6-5 in dual match play, including 4-2 at the No. 2 slot.
LaMachia and Studnicki were honored as the CAA women’s Doubles Team of the Week after pulling out a pair of victories in tiebreakers at the No. 1 doubles position for the Blue Hens. The UD duo got past Bucknell’s Michele Urbinati and Lauren Fishbein, 7-6 (6) in a 7-0 team win. They followed with a 7-6 (3) triumph over Lehigh’s Christina Auyeung and Jamie Campisi as the Hens took the match 7-0. LaMachia and Studnicki improved their record to 8-6.
