CAA BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Ryder Miconi, William & Mary
Sr., IF/DH, Guilford, Conn./Guilford

Miconi batted .409 with three doubles, six runs scored and nine RBI’s in William & Mary’s 4-1 week. The senior finished 8-for-15 with multiple hits in all three games of the Tribe’s CAA series sweep of JMU. Miconi drove in seven against the Dukes, including a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning of Saturday’s 8-7 victory. He’s batting .327 with 33 RBI’s for the season.

CAA BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Evan Sisk, College of Charleston
So., LHP, Chester, S.C./Lewisville

Sisk allowed just three hits over 7.0 shutout innings in College of Charleston’s 5-0 victory over Towson on Saturday. The sophomore left-hander struck out seven and didn’t issue a walk to improve to 5-0 with a 2.56 ERA for the season. It was the second shutout in the past four weeks that Sisk has been a part of.

CAA BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
David Stiehl, Northeastern
Fr., RHP, Manchester, Conn./Cheshire Academy

Stiehl scattered three hits over 7.0 shutout innings as Northeastern blanked NYIT, 11-0, on Saturday. The freshman right-hander struck out six with no walks in the longest outing of his career. Stiehl, who faced the minimum number of batters over his final five frames, never let a runner occupy second base in the game.

DIAMOND NOTES:

COL. OF CHARLESTON (20-20, 10-5 in CAA)

The Cougars moved into second place after sweeping a three-game series from Towson that capped a 3-1 week. CofC’s pitching staff limited the Tigers to four runs in the series. Evan Sisk moved to 5-0 after tossing 7.0 shutout innings in Saturday’s 5-0 win. Jakob Frishmuth (3-3) held TU to one run over 6.0 frames in Sunday’s 8-1 triumph. Offensively, Joey Mundy was 7-for-11 in the TU series with multiple hits in each game. Luke Manzo hit his first career homer and drove in four runs in Friday’s win over Towson, and Logan McRae was 3-for-5 with four RBI’s. McRae was also 2-for-3 and brought in four on Sunday to raise his CAA-best RBI total to 48 for the season. Tommy Richter had four hits on Friday and ranks second in the CAA with a team-best .389 batting average. Xavier Freeman hit his first two homers of the season on Saturday and Sunday.

DELAWARE (23-15, 9-6 in CAA)
The Blue Hens went 3-1 last week, including a pair of victories in their CAA series at Elon. Nick Patten had a hit in all four games and batted .333 for the week with three homers and five RBI’s. Patten and Brian Mayer both went deep in a 3-2 victory over Elon in Saturday’s finale and have nine homers apiece for the season. Ron Marinaccio got the start in the final game and responded with 4.2 shutout innings. UD beat the Phoenix, 11-2, in Friday’s opener as Doug Trimble was 4-for-5 with a double, homer and three RBI’s. He leads the CAA with a .407 batting average and is hitting .458 in conference play. Pitcher Nick Spadafino didn’t give up an earned run in 5.1 innings on Friday and upped his record to 4-1. Diaz Nardo extended his on base streak to 30 games before having it snapped in the series finale. UD has won seven of its last eight games.

ELON (19-21, 9-6 in CAA)
The Phoenix slipped into a tie for third place after losing two-of-three to Delaware over the weekend. Elon rolled past the Hens, 15-2, in the middle game as Ryne Ogren was 3-for-4 with three RBI’s and Ty Adcock was 3-for-5 and drove in three. Ogren ranks third in the CAA with a .365 average and leads the league with 16 doubles. Freshman pitcher Kyle Brnovich improved to 5-2 after giving up just two hits over 5.0 shutout innings and striking out eight. He leads the CAA with a 2.21 ERA and is 4-0 with a 0.97 ERA in conference play. Brnovich’s 74 strikeouts this season top the CAA and are the second-most ever for an Elon rookie. Jordan Barrett surrendered three runs over a career-best 7.1 innings in the series finale vs. UD, but took the loss in a 3-2 setback. The Phoenix travel to second-place Col. of Charleston this weekend.

HOFSTRA (10-27, 3-9 in CAA)
The Pride went 2-2 last week, beating local rival Manhattan, 8-2, and taking the middle game of their CAA series with UNCW, 6-3. Pitcher John Rooney held the Seahawks to two runs on six hits over 8.0 innings to record his third win. Rooney struck out a career-high 10, which was the most for a Hofstra hurler since 2008. The Pride batted .307 as a team last week, led by David Leiderman, who hit .412 over the four games. Teddy Cillis and Brad Witkowski each batted .400, with Cillis cracking a pair of home runs. Steven Foster went 2-for-5 on Sunday to raise his team-best average to .351, which ranks fifth in the CAA. Five Pride pitchers combined to limit Manhattan to six hits and no earned runs, while striking out 11.

JAMES MADISON (18-21, 3-9 in CAA)
The Dukes have dropped eight straight in CAA play after being swept at William & Mary over the weekend. Four of the eight setbacks have been by two runs or less, including a pair of walk-off losses at W&M. Kyle McPherson batted .417 (10-24) for the week with five doubles. He was 8-for-15 and drove in five against the Tribe. Freshman Fox Semones had a hit in all five games last week and batted .375 (6-16). He smacked a three-run homer, which was his third of the year, on Sunday. Adam Sisk is batting .322 and leads the CAA in runs scored (46) and stolen bases (14-of-15). He launched a two-run homer in a 7-2 loss at #19 Virginia last Wednesday. Pitcher Josh Silvestri gave up three earned runs over 6.1 innings and struck out seven on Sunday.

UNCW (18-20, 7-5 in CAA)
The Seahawks split four games last week, but took two-of-three at Hofstra in CAA play over the weekend. UNCW tied a school record with seven homers, including six in the 8th inning, during Sunday’s 20-7 win over the Pride. Freshman Riley Zayicek went deep twice and drove in five in the game, while Nick Feight was 3-for-6 with a homer and four RBI’s. Feight extended his hitting streak to seven and moved into a tie for fourth on the Seahawks’ career homers list with 32, matching current assistant coach Robbie Monday. Pitcher Alex Royalty improved to 6-2 after giving up four runs in 6.2 innings in Friday’s 7-4 win at HU. He fanned six and has struck out 28 over his last 21.2 innings. Clark Cota escaped a bases loaded jam in the 8th and recorded his fourth save of the year.

NORTHEASTERN (20-17, 9-3 in CAA)
The Huskies rebounded from a 6-5 setback to UMass in the Beanpot by winning a pair of weekend doubleheaders over NYIT. Northeastern out-scored the Bears 47-13 over the four games. Cam Hanley led the offensive assault, batting .467 (7-15) with a double, two triples and 10 RBI’s. He drove in seven in Sunday’s twinbill and is hitting .336 for the year. Pat Madigan added six RBI’s in the series and Mason Koppens had five. Leadoff hitter Charlie McConnell scored nine runs last week. On the mound, Nate Borges held NYIT to one run on three hits over 6.0 innings and struck out a career-high 10 in Saturday’s opener. Freshman David Stiehl followed in the nightcap by allowing three hits over 7.0 shutout frames and fanning six.

TOWSON (15-23, 3-9 in CAA)
The Tigers were swept in their CAA series at Charleston as part of a 1-4 week. Towson beat George Washington 8-4 last Wednesday as Mark Grunberg went 3-for-5 with two RBI’s from the leadoff spot. Pitcher Matt Allen improved to 3-1 after limiting GW to two runs over 6.0 innings. Richie Palacios had a pair of two-hit games in the CofC series and is batting a team-best .329 for the season. He also tops Towson in doubles (11), runs (30) and stolen bases (12). PItcher Kevin Ross held the Cougars to four runs over 7.0 innings on Saturday, but took the loss in the 5-0 setback. Despite an 0-4 record, Ross ranks seventh in the CAA with a 3.62 ERA. The Tigers play five of their next six at home, including a weekend CAA series against William & Mary.

WILLIAM & MARY (22-20, 7-5 in CAA)
The Tribe went 4-1 last week, capped by a three-game sweep of league foe JMU. Ryder Miconi batted .409 (9-22) with three doubles and nine RBI’s for the week. He was 8-for-15 and drove in seven vs. the Dukes, including a walk-off RBI single in the 10th of Saturday’s 8-7 victory. Freshman Brandon Raquet also had a big week, batting .400 (6-15) with seven walks and seven runs scored. He’s 4th in the CAA with a .353 batting average. Freshman Patrick Ryan delivered a walk-off RBI single in Sunday’s 7-6 win over JMU. Cullen Large was 5-for-5 on Sunday, which raised his average to .344. W&M rallied from an 8-0 deficit to beat Richmond, 11-10, last Tuesday. Charles Ameer belted a grand slam during the comeback that tied the game at 9-9.
