CAA MEN'S LACROSSE WEEKLY REPORT - MAY 1

RICHMOND, Va. (May 1, 2017) – Towson University senior Tyler Young was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week while University of Massachusetts attackman Jesse Leung picked up CAA Rookie of the Week honors. It was the final set of awards for the 2017 season.

Do-it-all midfielder Tyler Young had himself a day on Senior Day as  he went a perfect 4-for-4 in the No. 16 Tigers’ 10-8 win over No. 9 Hofstra. Young, who plays offense, defense and lines up on the wings for draws, had his first career hat trick with a four-goal day on just four shots. He added a pair of ground balls on the faceoff, helping Towson go 14-of-22 as the Tigers locked up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship.

During his first collegiate start, freshman Jesse Leung tallied a career-high five goals on only six shot attempts in the 14-8 win over Drexel. Leung scored at least once in each quarter, with two posted in the second to net the hat trick before reaching halftime. Leung tallied the first UMass goal of the day, evened the game at 4-4 with his first of the second quarter and put the Minutemen up for good, 6-5, with his third of the half. He later pushed the lead to 11-5 in the third and potted his fifth with the final goal of the game. Leung also notched a career-high four ground balls. His five goals were more than Leung had during the entirety of the season entering the game (4). He has scored all nine of his goals on the year during CAA play.
