CAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WEEKLY REPORT - FEBRUARY 26
RICHMOND, Va. (February 26, 2018) – Drexel University swept the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Basketball weekly honors as
Aubree Brown was named CAA Player of the Week and
Kayla Bacon picked up CAA Rookie of the Week honors.

Sophomore Aubree Brown led the Dragons in scoring in each of their two victories during the week, against first-place James Madison and at Towson. Brown averaged 21.0 points, 4.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game. Brown netted a career-high 26 points in the win over the Dukes, her first career game with 20 or more points. Twenty of her 26 points came after halftime, including 10 points in the two overtime sessions. At Towson, Brown led the way with 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting and dished out five assists.

Rookie Kayla Bacon took over late in the second half to jumpstart Drexel’s offense and power them to victory at Towson. Bacon played 15 minutes, and scored eight points on 4-for-8 shooting all in the fourth quarter, setting season bests in all facets. Bacon was credited with one steal, but deflected two other passes to create Towson turnovers in the fourth quarter that allowed Drexel to overcome a three-point fourth-quarter deficit and pull away for a double-digit lead late. Drexel had not gotten a single bench point for the first 33:03 of play until Bacon sparked a late 6-0 run in the fourth quarter.
CAA Notes
- The final two play dates of the CAA Women’s Basketball Regular Season will be March 1 and March 3.
- Upon the conclusion of the regular season, should James Madison and Drexel be tied atop the standings, the tiebreaker for the No. 1 seed would be determined by RPI.
- James Madison, Drexel, Elon, Delaware and Northeastern have secured CAA Championship Quarterfinal berths with final seeding being announced at the conclusion the regular season.
- The 2018 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship will be held March 7-10 and will be hosted by Drexel University at the Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia, Pa.
#CAAHoops – The Week that Was
Charleston (6-21; 2-14): The Cougars had a pair of home losses to UNCW and Northeastern.
Tanisha Brown averaged 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists on the week.
Delaware (17-10; 10-6): The Blue Hens split road games, topping William & Mary before falling to first-place James Madison. Junior
Nicole Enabosi averaged a double-double with 25.0 points and 13.0 rebounds. Enabosi has posted double-doubles in each of her last six games.
Drexel (22-6; 14-2): The Dragons went 2-0 on the week, downing James Madison, 73-71 in double overtime before posting a victory at Towson. With the wins, Drexel has a program-best 22 victories.
Aubree Brown had a solid week, averaging 21.0 points and 4.0 assists. Rookie
Kayla Bacon came through in the clutch at Towson, posting a season-best eight points, all in the fourth quarter, and playing strong defense to help the Dragons to the win.
Elon (20-7; 12-4): The Phoenix rolled to their eighth straight win with an 80-55 victory over the Pride in their only game of the week. Elon improved to 20-7 overall, marking its second-straight 20-win season. The Phoenix, which is 12-0 at home, shot 52.5 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from three-point range. Senior
Shay Burnett narrowly missed a triple-double, finishing with 12 points, 11 assists and eight boards.
Hofstra (11-17; 5-12): The Pride had a pair of tough losses, falling at home to Northeastern before falling at Elon.
Boogie Brozoski averaged 19.5 points 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists on the week.
James Madison (19-9; 15-2): The Dukes split games, falling at Drexel, 73-71, in double overtime before returning home to defeated Delaware.
Kamiah Smalls averaged 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds while
Kelly Koshuta averaged 13.0 points.
Logan Reynolds averaged 4.0 steals and 5.0 assists per game.
UNCW (10-17; 3-13): UNCW received career efforts from
Timber Tate and
Jenny DeGraaf as both Seahawks finished with 22 points to lead UNCW to a 76-60 series-clinching win at Charleston. It was the only game of the week for the Seahawks. Tate went 5-for-9 from three-point range to help set her career best and added three steals. DeGraaf went 10-for-14 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds while
Rebekah Banks pulled in 10 rebounds to lead all players.
Northeastern (15-13; 10-7): The Huskies went 2-0 last week with wins at Hofstra and at Charleston. Junior
Gabby GIacone averaged 18.0 points and 8.0 rebounds, including a 24-point effort against the Cougars.
Towson (9-18; 4-12): The Tigers suffered a tough loss to Drexel in their only game of the week. Towson led at the half and held a late lead, but Drexel was able to pull out the win. Senior
Mary Cuevas posted a her 11th double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Daijha Thomas had eight points on 4-for-4 shooting and blocked two shots.
William & Mary (16-11; 7-9): The Tribe fell at home to Delaware in their only game of the week.
Jenna Green and
Abby Rendle each tallied 12 points on Senior Night at Kaplan Arena. Green added four assists and three steals while Rendle swatted four shots.
