CAA MEN'S LACROSSE WEEKLY REPORT - MARCH 19

RICHMOND, Va. (March 19, 2018) – Drexel University attackman Matthew Varian and University of Massachusetts faceoff specialist Noah Rak shared Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week honors while Hofstra University attackman Dylan McIntosh was named the CAA Rookie of the Week.

Sophomore Matthew Varian had a 10-point week for Drexel which split games. In the 15-10 upset victory over No. 11 Georgetown, Varian potted a career-high six goals and assisted on another for a seven-point effort. He began the week with a goal and two assists against Saint Joseph’s. Varian leads Drexel with 17 goals and nine assists for 26 points this season after missing all of 2017 with an injury.

Senior Noah Rak won 40 of his 48 faceoffs (.833) and collected 32 ground balls in a 2-0 week for Massachusetts. In the 13-6 victory over UMass Lowell, Rak went 19-for-21 at the X (.905) as the lone Minuteman to take a faceoff, squaring off against nine different River Hawks, who did not win a faceoff until late in the fourth quarter. He also scooped up 15 ground balls and saw six of his faceoff wins lead to goals. Rak followed that up by out-dueling Hartford All-American Dylan Protesto at the X, winning 21 of 27 faceoffs and collecting a career-high 17 ground balls in the 17-13 victory.

Rookie Dylan McIntosh helped Hofstra to a 2-0 week by potting five goals. In the 7-6 win over Monmouth, McIntosh had a goal, coming in the second quarter which gave the Pride a two-goal lead. In the 12-8 victory at Providence, McIntosh posted a season-high four goals, two of which were man-up tallies. McIntosh scored three of Hofstra’s final five goals of the game. His second goal of the day was a go-ahead tally in the third quarter and he scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter. McIntosh now has nine goals and one assist on the year.
