NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (March 3, 2018) – Sophomore Ryan Daly scored a team-high 23 points and redshirt junior Eric Carter contributed 20 points and 11 rebounds as the seventh-seeded Blue Hens moved on to the quarterfinals of the CAA Men’s Basketball Championship, presented by Jersey Mike’s Subs, with an 86-79 win over 10th-seeded Elon in the second game of the 2018 tournament on Saturday.
 
Carter, who collected his 12th double-double of the season, shot a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor and went 10-of-12 from the free throw line for Delaware (14-18), which earned a spot in the quarters for the second straight year. The Blue Hens will face No. 2 seed Northeastern at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
   
Daly registered his 25th consecutive double-digit scoring effort, while freshman Ryan Allen, who on Friday was named CAA Rookie of the Year, reached double-figures for the 16th straight game with 14 points and a team-high three triples.
 
The No. 10 seed Phoenix (14-18), who were looking to snap a six-game losing skid, were led in defeat by senior Dmitri Thompson’s game-high 27 points. Thompson finished with four treys, eight rebounds and four assists. Juniors Steven Santa Ana and Tyler Seibring each scored 15 points.

Elon opened the game on a 10-2 run, but then lost its early spark as the Hens gained control at the midway point of the period. A three-pointer by Allen sent Delaware into halftime with a 41-30 advantage.
 
The Phoenix made another surge to start the second half, closing to within 50-47 on a Thompson three-pointer with 15:54 remaining. However, Delaware slowly pulled away and never led Elon get any closer than five over the final 13 minutes.

Delaware shot 57.4% from the floor and committed only six turnovers. Elon knocked down 10 three-pointers, but made only 27.8% of its attempts from beyond the arc.
