CAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WEEKLY REPORT - MARCH 5

RICHMOND, Va. (March 5, 2018) – Drexel University senior Kelsi Lidge and Elon University senior Shay Burnett shared the final Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors of the season while Delaware’s Justina Mascaro picked up CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.

Senior Kelsi Lidge closed out the regular season with a bang, averaging 22.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists to help Drexel to a share of the CAA Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 Seed in the tournament. Lidge shot 56.0 percent (18-for-32) for the week, including a 5-for-11 clip from three-point range. In the victory at Delaware, Lidge tallied 27 points on 12-for-19 shooting, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists without a turnover. On Senior Day at the DAC, Lidge posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds while also handing out five assists.

Senior Shay Burnett helped Elon to a 2-0 week and helped them extend their winning streak to 10 games by averaging 12.0 points, 11.5 assists and 9.0 rebounds per game. Burnett posted her second triple-double of the season with 14 assists, 10 rebounds and 13 points against William & Mary in the final game at Alumni Gym. She followed that up with 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists against UNCW.

Rookie guard Justina Mascaro helped Delaware to a split against Drexel, the CAA regular season co-champions, and a big win against Towson.  Mascaro averaged 6.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and shot 56 percent from the field. Against Drexel, she tallied six boards, four points and an assist in 12 minutes. She saw 20 minutes of action and helped UD reach the 80-point mark against Towson with eight points on 3-for-4 shooting from the field.
 
 

#CAAHoops – The Week that Was
 
Charleston (6-23; 2-16): The Cougars lost their final game of the regular season at Drexel. Senior Tanisha Brown tallied 16 points and seven rebounds while Bri Sullivan had 10 points and seven boards.
 
Delaware (18-11; 11-7): The Blue Hens split games, falling at Drexel before topping Towson. Samone DeFreese averaged 18.0 points and 5.0 rebounds while Nicole Enabosi averaged 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds. The Blue Hens will be the No. 5 Seed in the CAA Championship.
 
Drexel (24-6; 16-2): The Dragons went 2-0 on the week topping Delaware on the road and Charleston at home to clinch a share of the CAA Regular Season Championship, their first since 2008-09. Drexel also wrapped up the regular season with a 13-0 home record. Senior Kelsi Lidge averaged 22.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while Bailey Greenberg averaged 13.5 points per game. Rookie Hannah Nihill posted nine steals in the two games.
 
Elon (22-7; 14-4): The Phoenix went 2-0 on the week and closed out the regular season on a 10-game winning streak. Senior Shay Burnett averaged 12.0 points, 11.5 assists and 9.0 rebounds per game. Burnett posted her second triple-double of the season with 14 assists, 10 rebounds and 13 points against William & Mary.
 
Hofstra (11-18; 5-13): The Pride dropped their only game of the week, falling at Northeastern 58-54. Hofstra surged late, but the Huskies held on for the win. Boogie Brozoski tallied a game-high 19 points while Aleana Leon had 11 points and seven rebounds.
 
James Madison (20-9; 16-2): The Dukes clinched a share of their fourth CAA Regular Season Championship in the last five years with a 70-64 victory over William & Mary. Kelly Koshuta finished with 21 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, and shot 9-for-11 from the field and 3-for-4 from long range. JMU also notched its 13th consecutive 20-win season.
 
UNCW (11-18; 4-14): The Seahawks split homes games with a win over Towson and a narrow defeat against Elon. Chinyere Bell averaged 14.0 points per game while Lacey Suggs averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
 
Northeastern (16-13; 11-7): The Huskies secured the No. 4 seed in the CAA Championship by topping Hofstra, 58-54. Junior Jess Genco returned to the lineup to drop in 17 points and dish out six assists while classmate Gabby Giacone had a double-double (16pts, 10reb).
 
Towson (9-20; 4-14): The Tigers had a pair of tough road losses at UNCW and Delaware. Senior Raine Bankston averaged 15.5 points and 6.0 rebounds while Nukiya Mayo averaged 11.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
 
William & Mary (16-13; 7-11): The Tribe had a pair of tough road losses at Elon and James Madison. Senior Abby Rendle averaged 15.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game while Nari Garner averaged 12.5 points per game.
