Canada batted .474 (9-for-19) with three home runs and 10 RBI’s in UNCW’s 4-1 week. The sophomore had at least two hits in four of the five contests and drove in multiple runs in three of them. He went deep three times in the first two games vs. Princeton after entering the season with just four career homers. Canada raised his team-best batting average to .344 for the season.

McLarty threw a complete-game, 6-hit shutout as Charleston defeated SEC foe Georgia, 6-0, last Saturday. The sophomore tied his career-high with seven strikeouts and walked only one in recording the first complete-game shutout by a Cougars’ pitcher since 2014. McLarty is 2-0 with a 0.49 ERA for the season.

In his collegiate debut last Sunday, Roupp allowed just one hit over 5.0 shutout innings in UNCW’s victory over Princeton. The freshman right-hander struck out three and induced 10 groundball outs as the Seahawks completed their sweep of the Tigers.

DIAMOND NOTES:

Charleston (10-2)
- The Cougars were a perfect 5-0 last week, including a 3-game sweep of SEC foe Georgia. CofC is off to its second-best start in school history. The Cougars’ pitching staff allowed only eight runs in five games with a pair of shutouts. Griffin McLarty tossed a complete-game, 6-hit shutout in Saturday’s 6-0 win over Georgia. Brian Rouke (7 IP, 4 H, 5 K’s) and Nathan Ocker combined to limit Georgia Southern to five hits in a 3-0 triumph. CofC lowered its ERA for the season to 2.58. Dupree Hart leads CofC offensively with a .395 batting average, while Luke Morgan is hitting .340 with four stolen bases.

Delaware (5-4) - The Blue Hens swept a three-game weekend series over rival Delaware State. Kyle Baker batted .500 (6-12) with three doubles, two triples and nine RBI’s. He had two hits in all three contests and drove in at least two runs in each game. Baker is batting a team-best .457 for the season with 12 RBI’s. On the mound, junior Kyle Hinton allowed just two hits over 7.0 shutout innings while striking out 10 in the Hens’ 9-0 victory over DSU on Sunday. The effort dropped Hinton’s ERA to 1.59 for the season. Freshman Billy Sullivan IV improved to 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA after giving up two hits and a run over 4.0 innings on Sunday and fanning eight.

Elon (5-7) - The Phoenix went 3-1 last week, edging Liberty (4-3) at home before winning two-of-three at Georgia Southern. Ryne Ogren stayed hot offensively, batting .429 (6-14) with four RBI’s. He has reached base safely in all 12 games this season and is riding a nine-game hitting streak. Freshman Matt Oldham had batted .375 with three runs scored and had the first two multi-hit games of his career. On the hill, George Kirby gave up just two runs on five hits over 6.0 innings and struck out a career-high 11 in Friday’s 4-2 win at GSU. Robbie Welhaf had nine K’s over the final 3.0 frames, giving Elon 20 for the game. For the season, Elon is averaging 11.1 strikeouts per contest.

Hofstra (5-2) - The Pride swept a three-game weekend series at Norfolk State to extend their winning streak to five. Rob Weissheier hit .625 (5-8) with three doubles and four RBI’s in the series, while Vinnie Costello battted .444 with his first home run. Freshman Austin Gauthier is on a four-game hitting streak after batting .385 with three runs scored last week. The Pride pitching staff surrendered just five earned runs in the three games and recorded 32 strikeouts in 25 innings. John Rooney registered a career-high 13 in his start and Chris Weiss fanned 10 in four innings of relief. Rooney is third in career K’s with 181.

James Madison (7-4) - The Dukes split four games last week, picking up a win over Richmond and one in a three-game set with Fordham.Senior Adam Sisk had a big week offensively, hitting .615 (8-13) with a double, homer, five runs scored and three RBI’s. He was 4-for-4 in the win over UR. Freshman Josh Jones batted .333 (4-12) with three runs scored last week. He had a hit in three of the four games and committed just one error in 19 chances at shortstop. Senior Matt Colon picked up the save in both victories last week. He gave up just one hit and an unearned run over 2.1 innings in three appearances.

UNCW (9-3) - The Seahawks had a 4-1 week, including a four-game weekend sweep of Princeton. UNCW smacked eight homers and scored 35 runs against the Tigers, while the pitching staff struck out 47 hitters over 36.0 innings. Zack Canada batted .474 (9-19) with three homers and 10 RBI’s and earned National Player of the Week honors from Collegiate Baseball. Alex Royalty picked up his second win of the season after limiting Princeton to two hits over 6.0 shutout innings while striking out a season-high nine batters. He hasn’t allowed a run over the last 14.0 innings. Freshman Landen Roupp excelled in his collegiate debut, limiting Princeton one hit over 5.0 shutout innings.

Northeastern (7-3) - The Huskies defeated Presbyterian (6-1), Dartmouth (10-8) and Villanova (1-0) last week at the Snowbird Classic in Florida. Sean Mellon improved to 3-0 after allowing just four hits over 7.0 shutout innings and striking out a career-high 13 in the victory over Villanova. The Huskies finished with 16 K’s in the game, which was the team’s most since 2015. Offensively, shortstop Max Burt batted .455 (5-11) with two runs scored and five RBI’s, four of which came against Dartmouth. Jake Farrell tops Northeastern with a .439 batting average and a team-best 11 RBI’s.

Towson (2-7) - The Tigers went 1-2 in their home-opening series with UAlbany. Towson won Sunday’s finale, 8-7, as Bo Plagge delivered a walk-off single. Plagge finished 3-for-4 with two RBI’s as Towson rallied from a 6-1 deficit. Richie Palacios continues to lead the Tigers offensively, hitting .400 with three homers and a team-high 11 RBI’s. On the mound, David Marriggi turned in another strong performance on Saturday, giving up just two hits over 5.0 shutout innings while striking out six. He’s 1-0 with a 2.35 ERA on the season.

William & Mary (3-9) - The Tribe split four games last week, including taking two-of-three from High Point in a weekend series. Shortstop Zach Pearson batted .333 (5-15) with five runs scored and reached base safely in all four games. He’s also hitting .333 for the season, which tops the team. On the mound, lefty Bodie Sheehan held High Point to five hits and one unearned run over 7.2 frames on Saturday. The effort lowered his season ERA to 1.25. Freshman Jacob Haney gave up just three hits and no earned runs over 6.0 innings and struck out six to get the win in Sunday’s finale.
