Callan Smith was selected as the CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week, and William & Mary freshman
Sophia Heilen was honored as the Women’s Swimmer of the Week after both turned in multiple first-place efforts last Saturday.
CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Callan Smith, Gr., Monmouth (Hillarys, Australia)
Smith posted a pair of first-place finishes and a second-place effort in Monmouth’s season-opening meet against Fairfield last Saturday. The graduate student won the 100 back in a time of 57.74 and captured the 200 back in a time of 2:04.49 in a short course meter pool. He was the runner up in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.03. Smith now has 75 individual victories for his career.
CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Sophia Heilen, Fr., William & Mary (Haymarket, Va.)
Heilen recorded three first-place performances as William & Mary defeated Johns Hopkins in its home opener last Saturday. The freshman was just .20 off the Tribe dual meet record in winning the 100 fly in a time of 55.56, and claimed the 200 fly in a time of 2:02.98, which was a second shy of the W&M record. Heilen also was part of W&M’s first-place 200 medley relay team with a time of 1:44.53.
