RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 20, 2022) – Pivotal weekends in soccer await and a packed schedule is ahead around the Colonial Athletic Association.
Women’s Soccer
All six games have clinching or seeding implications in Sunday’s final day of the regular season. Down the Shore, a regular season title is on the line as Monmouth hosts Northeastern. The Hawks and Huskies are tied atop the table entering the season’s final day and a victory would earn either team the No. 1 overall seed and outright regular-season title. In Maryland, Elon can move into the No. 1 position with a win plus a draw in Jersey, while Towson has an opportunity to move into top-two position. In Newark, Drexel will look for a win and some help as the Dragons, into the field for the first time since 2018, aim to host games next weekend. The winner of Stony Brook-Hofstra is in and the Seawolves clinch with a draw, while other scenarios are in play for both sides. UNCW goes to Charleston with a win-and-in scenario for the Seahawks, while Charleston’s hopes remain alive with a win and some assistance. All five of those games will kick at 1 p.m. on FloFC.
The final game of the regular season will kick at 2 p.m. in Williamsburg, where William & Mary and Hampton square off. The Tribe is in with a win. |
Weekend Schedule
Men’s Soccer
The midweek magic continued Tuesday with Elon’s 3-0 win over North Carolina for the Phoenix’s first ever victory over the Tar Heels. Two other CAA teams posted 1-1 draws against ranked opponents, as Drexel tied No. 16 Penn and Hofstra collected a draw at No. 24 Virginia. The CAA is 2-1-2 in its last five games against the ACC.
Five league games highlight Saturday’s slate with four in the afternoon. Northeastern hosts William & Mary, Charleston visits Elon, and Hofstra heads to Drexel for 1 p.m. kicks, while Stony Brook faces UNCW at 2 p.m. and Monmouth hosts 7 p.m. All five games will be available on FloFC. |
Weekend Schedule
Volleyball
We have passed the midway point in the CAA Volleyball schedule, and this weekend features five conference matchups along with one non-conference contest. One team remains unbeaten in league play as Hofstra enters the week 10-0 in CAA competition. The Pride will face its tallest task yet, as Hofstra welcomes Delaware (7-3) to Long Island this weekend. The Blue Hens sit in third place and will be looking to make up ground in the conference race. Two matchups feature a pair of teams with four conference wins going head-to-head, which could shake up the conference standings. Up north, Northeastern (4-4) returns home, where the Huskies are 4-0 in CAA play, to host Stony Brook (4-6), who has picked up steam, winning three of its past four matches. Down south, Elon (4-4) plays host to Charleston after the Phoenix earned a huge win last weekend, snapping Towson’s 18-match winning streak. The Cougars enter the matchup after ending a four-match skid with back-to-back wins last weekend. Additional conference showdowns include North Carolina A&T hosting UNCW and William & Mary entertaining Hampton, while Towson will play a non-conference contest against Chicago State on Sunday. |
Weekend Schedule
Field Hockey
It is the penultimate weekend of the field hockey season, with six conference matchups on the docket and all seven teams in action. On Friday, the top two teams from the preseason will meet in Newark as first-place Delaware (3-1) hosts Northeastern (2-1), which sits half a game back of the Blue Hens. The match will begin at 5 p.m. (FloLive) as Delaware looks to continue a dominant run against the Huskies by winning its 12th straight contest against Northeastern and tie the all-time series. Drexel (2-1), also half a game back of first place, will look to keep pace in the conference race as the Dragons host Hofstra in the first matchup of the evening (4 p.m., FloLive). Additionally, William & Mary will close out its CAA slate as the Tribe entertains Towson (5 p.m., FloLive), looking for its first conference win.
On Sunday, Delaware wraps up conference play by welcoming Hofstra to Fred P. Rullo Stadium (12 p.m., FloLive) as the Blue Hens hope to clinch at least a share of the CAA regular season title for the first time since 2019. Simultaneously, Drexel and Northeastern will clash in Philadelphia with year-end implications on the line. The teams enter the weekend tied at 2-1 in conference play, and the head-to-head matchup will position the winner for a postseason berth. In the final matchup of the weekend, Monmouth (3-1), tied for first in the conference standings, attempts to continue to make a statement in CAA Field Hockey, hosting Towson (12 p.m., FloLive). |
