Stony Brook Men’s Cross Country Wins Team Title for First-Ever CAA Championship; Northeastern’s Korczynski Repeats as Individual Champion

NEWARK, Del. (Oct. 28, 2022)
 – Stony Brook men’s cross country team won the institution’s first CAA Championship, claiming the 2022 CAA Men’s Cross Country Championship title Friday morning at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Del. Alexander Korczynski of Northeastern claimed the individual title for the second consecutive season becoming the first Husky to win the event twice. 
 
The Seawolves tallied 31 points to earn the team title, edging out Northeastern in second place with 39 points. William & Mary finished third with 111 points followed by Monmouth in fourth with 117 points. Hofstra came in fifth, scoring 123 points to place ahead of Elon in sixth with 126 points. Charleston, UNCW, North Carolina A&T and Hampton rounded out the men’s 10-team field. 
 
Stony Brook placed five runners in the top 10 to win the men’s team title in its inaugural CAA Cross Country Championship. Carlos Santos led the pack of Seawolves, finishing fourth in a time of 24:31.3. He was followed by three teammates as Robert Becker (24:38.8), Evan Brennan (24:46.9) and Shane Henderson (24:51.3) placed fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Aiden Smith (25:02.8) and Conor Malanaphy (25:20.6) also collected All-CAA honors for Stony Brook, finishing ninth and 12th, respectively. 
   
Korczynski was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the meet after winning the individual crown with a time of 24:09.6. He led four Huskies earning All-CAA honors, including his teammate, Benjamin Godish, finishing runner-up (24:10.9). Additionally, Matthew Schaefer earned a top-10 finish, placing eighth (24:57.5) and Patrick Cullen was 11th (25:15.5). 
 
The Tribe was led by Jacob Jones, who earned All-CAA honors with a 14th-place finish (25:23.0) as William & Mary placed three runners in the top 25. 
 
Louis DiLaurenzio became the first Monmouth student-athlete to garner all-conference accolades, following a 13th-place finish (25:20.6) in the Hawk's inaugural CAA Cross Country Championship. 
 
Hofstra placed a runner in the top five for the fifth consecutive season as Abraham Longosiwa paced the Pride, finishing third with a time of 24:17.1. 
 
Elon had two individuals claim All-CAA honors with a pair of top-15 finishes. Zane Jackson led the Phoenix, crossing in 10th (25:08.5), while Andrew Miller finished 15th (25:24.3).
