CAA Field Hockey Weekly Awards – Oct. 3

RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 3, 2022) – The Colonial Athletic Association has announced its weekly field hockey awards following last week’s competition. For a second consecutive week, Monmouth graduate student Annick van Lange was named CAA Player of the Week, while Towson freshman Hedwig Veldhuizen earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors.

van Lange totaled an impressive 11 points on five goals and one assist to lead Monmouth over the weekend. On Sunday, the graduate student recorded a career-high nine points, scoring four goals and adding one assist in an 8-0 route of Sacred Heart. It marks the first hat trick in CAA Field Hockey this season, while the four goals match a single-game high in the NCAA. In addition, with her third goal in the contest, van Lange broke the Monmouth program record for career goals scored. Prior to the performance, van Lange tallied the game-tying goal against No. 19 William & Mary on Friday, although the Hawks eventually fell in a shootout.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Hedwig Veldhuizen, Towson

Veldhuizen led Towson to its second win in a row, recording three points on one goal and one assist in a 3-1 victory over Saint Louis. The freshman assisted on a third-quarter goal to give Towson a 2-0 advantage before putting the game out of reach with her tally 63 seconds in the fourth period. It marks her second consecutive game with three points, adding her second career goal and third career assist in the victory.
