CAA Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards - Nov. 1

RICHMOND, Va. (November 1, 2022) – Towson junior Brian Benzing repeated as CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while UNCW junior Brooke Knisely and Towson senior Katie Nunez shared CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week accolades. UNCW freshman Ethan Badrian was named CAA Men’s Diver of the Week and Towson freshman Shannon Parrau was selected as the CAA Women’s Diver of the Week.
CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Brian Benzing, Jr., Towson (Ellicott City, Md.)
Benzing repeats as Swimmer of the Week following an impressive effort at the Thomas Murphy Invite. He won the 100 fly with a time of 47.61, which is the fastest in the CAA and 35
th nationally this season. He also placed second in the 50 free with a time of 20.45 and was part of Towson’s winning 800 free relay squad. Capping his weekend, Benzing was a member of second-place teams in the 400 free relay, 400 medley relay and 200 medley relay. All four relay times are tops in the conference this season.
CAA Co-Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Brooke Knisely, Jr., UNCW (Roanoke, Va.)
Knisely recorded three first-place finishes in UNCW’s competition with Duke last Saturday. The junior won the 500 free with a time of 4:57.27, the 1000 free with a time of 10:13.55 and the 400 IM with a time of 4:30.99. Knisely has the CAA’s top performances this season in the 500 and 1000 free and the second-best effort in the 400 IM.
CAA Co-Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Katie Nunez, Sr., Towson (Norfolk, Va.)
Nunez captured three individual events and added a first-place finish and two second-place efforts in relays for Towson at the Thomas Murphy Invite. The senior turned in a winning time of 23.38 in the 50 free, which was .04 off a pool record, claimed the 100 free in a time of 50.99, and took the 100 breast in a time of 1:03.90, which is the fastest in the CAA this season. Nunez was also part of the Tigers’ first-place 400 medley relay and second-place squads in the 400 free relay and 800 free relay.
CAA Men’s Diver of the Week
Ethan Badrian, Fr., UNCW (Silver Spring, Md.)
Badrian turned in a pair of strong performances in UNCW’s meet against Duke last Saturday. The freshman compiled a score of 305.55 on the 3-meter board to place fourth and scored 250.13 in the 1-meter competition to finish fifth.
CAA Women’s Diver of the Week
Shannon Parrau, Fr., Towson (Germantown, Md.)
Parrau swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions at the Thomas Murphy Invite last weekend. The freshman posted a winning score of 254.25 on the 1-meter board and claimed first place on the 3-meter board with a score of 252.60. Parrau has taken first place in all six diving events this season.
