Six CAA Runners Claim All-Region Honors at NCAA Regional Championships

RICHMOND, Va. (Nov. 11, 2022) – Four Northeastern and two Stony Brook student-athletes claimed All-Region honors on Friday morning to highlight the NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships for the CAA.
On the men’s side, CAA individual champion Alexander Korczynski of Northeastern earned a top 10 finish at the Northeast Regional, placing seventh with a time of 29:39.9 to lead all CAA participants. The Stony Brook duo of Evan Brennan and Robert Becker finished 12th (29:45.9) and 20th (29:57.7), respectively, while fellow Husky Benjamin Godish placed 21st (30:00.9) to claim All-Region accolades.
For the women, Northeastern teammates Abigail Hassman and Isa Meyers collected All-Region honors for their performances at the Northeast Regional. After winning the CAA individual title, Hassman ran to a 13th-place finish with a time of 20:57.4. Meyers recorded a 6K personal record (21:08.9) to finish 23rd in the event.
In the team race, the Stony Brook men finished sixth overall followed by Northeastern in eighth, and Hofstra rounded out the conference teams in 27th. Abraham Longosiwa was the top finisher for the Pride, placing 33rd (30:24.6). The Northeastern women placed fifth overall, while Stony Brook finished 10th, and Hofstra came in 28th.
At the Mid-Atlantic Regional, the Delaware and Monmouth women finished back-to-back in 16th and 17th, respectively, while the Monmouth men placed 14th. For the women, Ashley Navarro paced Monmouth, finishing 61st (21:56.8), and she was followed by Autumn Sands of Delaware in 62nd (22:00.1). Additionally, Beighley Ayers represented Towson, finishing 105th (22:49.8). Monmouth’s Louis DiLaurenzio lead the men’s competitors, placing 46th (31:23.8).
The Southeast Regional featured five CAA teams as the Elon women earned the top team finish, placing seventh overall. William & Mary finished 14th for the women, and Charleston was 21st. The Phoenix was paced by Anna Twomey, who finished 30th (20:57.1) in the event, while Sofia Istnick led the Tribe with a 44th-place finish (21:15.1). Kendall Hobbs represented UNCW as an individual, placing 78th (21:49.2) and Rhian Purves was the top finisher for the Cougars, crossing in 94th (22:11.7). On the men’s side, William & Mary finished 17th as a team, followed by Elon in 20th and Charleston in 32nd. Jacob Jones paced William & Mary, finishing 77th (31:29.8), while Andrew Miller led the Phoenix, placing 100th (32:02.6). Jordan Richardson ran as an individual for North Carolina A&T (166th/33:47.0), and Jackson Wedge was the top finisher for the Charleston men (177th/34:04.6).
The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee will announce the automatic teams, at-large teams and individual men and women qualifiers to the 2022 championships on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 5 p.m. EST on NCAA.com.
The top two teams at each regional championship meet automatically qualify for the championship meet. From each NCAA regional meet, the first four student-athletes, not on a qualifying team, to finish will be automatic qualifiers to the NCAA championships meet. All individual automatic qualifiers must finish in the top 25 within their region.
