CAA Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards - Nov. 22

RICHMOND, Va. (November 22, 2022) – Towson junior Brian Benzing was selected as the Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while Delaware senior Mira Selling was named the Women’s Swimmer of the Week. UNCW freshman Ethan Badrian earned Men’s Diver of the Week honors for the third time and Stony Brook junior Sara DiStefano was chosen as the Diver of the Week.
CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Brian Benzing, Jr., Towson (Ellicott City, Md.)
Benzing won six events and set five meet records at the Patriot Invitational last weekend. The junior posted NCAA B cut times in the 100 fly (47.14) and 100 breast (52.37), with the time in the fly ranking as the 2
nd-best in school history. The time in the 100 breast ranks 17
th nationally. His winning time of 43.92 in the 100 free was the 2
nd-fastest in the CAA this season. Benzing was also part of a meet record in the 200 medley relay and a pool record in the 400 medley relay.
CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Mira Selling, Sr., Delaware (Dresden, Germany)
Selling recorded five first-place finishes and set program records in three events at the Bison Invitational. The senior set new program marks in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.01 and the 400 IM with a time of 4:16.49. Both performances are the fastest in the CAA this season. She was also part of a record-setting effort in the 400 medley relay (3:41.34). In addition, Selling finished first in the 100 free (50.32) and 200 free (1:47.93) with times that rank in the top four in the conference.
CAA Men’s Diver of the Week
Ethan Badrian, Fr., UNCW (Silver Springs, Md.)
Badrian swept both boards with a pair of impressive efforts at the Patriot Invitational. The freshman posted a score of 333.15 in the finals of the 3-meter competition after tallying a career-best 343.45 in the prelims. On the 1-meter board, he compiled a winning score of 314.0, which is the second-best in the CAA this season.
CAA Women’s Diver of the Week
Sara DiStefano, Jr., Stony Brook (Staten Island, N.Y.)
DiStefano took first place and posted a NCAA Zone B qualifying score with a career-high 293.85 points on the 3-meter board in Stony Brook’s meet against Siena last week. The junior also finished third in the 1-meter competition with a score of 252.37.
