Hassman of Northeastern Headlines CAA Women’s Cross Country Year-End Honors

Abigail Hassman was named CAA Runner of the Year to headline the CAA Women’s Cross Country year-end honors as three teams earned recognition with major awards. In addition,
Sofia Istnick of William & Mary was selected as the CAA Rookie of the Year, and Elon’s
Kevin Jermyn was tabbed as the CAA Coach of the Year in a vote of the league’s head coaches.
Hassman continues to make Northeastern history, becoming the program’s first woman to earn CAA Runner of the Year accolades. In a record-setting year, Hassman was the first Husky to claim the CAA individual title, winning the CAA Championship in October. She was the highest-finishing Husky in program history at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, earning All-Region honors with a 13th-place (20:57.4) effort. Additionally, the Foxborough, Mass. native set Northeastern program records in the 5K and 6K, running personal-best marks of 17:28.4 and 20:41.0, respectively.
Istnick is the league-leading 12th CAA Rookie of the Year from William & Mary but the first for the Tribe since 2017. She earned All-CAA honors and was the top-finishing freshman at the CAA Championship, placing ninth (21:51.1) in the event. Istnick finished 44th at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship (21:15.1) to pace all Tribe runners for the third time this fall. The freshman from Massillon, Ohio recorded personal-best times of 17:30.8 in the 5K and 20:48.0 in the 6K during her rookie campaign.
Jermyn collects CAA Coach of the Year honors for the fourth time in as many seasons after guiding the Phoenix to its fourth consecutive CAA team title this fall. Under his leadership, Elon had a league-high five All-CAA performers, including three of the top four finishers and four top-10 efforts at the conference championship meet. Jermyn is the third coach in conference history to earn at least four CAA Coach of the Year honors during their tenure.
