RICHMOND, Va. (Dec. 2, 2022) – Northeastern graduate student Alexander Korczynski earned back-to-back CAA Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Year honors to highlight the league’s postseason awards. Additionally, Hofstra’s Abraham Longosiwa was named CAA Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year and Andy Ronan of Stony Brook was tabbed as the CAA Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. The major awards announced by the conference office on Friday were decided by a vote of the league’s head coaches.

Korczynski had a career year in becoming the first Northeastern student-athlete to win CAA Runner of the Year honors twice. He earned his second consecutive CAA Individual title in October before earning All-Region accolades at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship and qualifying for the NCAA Cross Country National Championship. The Willimantic, Conn. native set personal-best marks in the 5K (15:07.7) and 10K (23:39.9) while recording a season-best time of 23:51.7 in the 8K. Korczynski was the lone NCAA Championship qualifier from the CAA and the first for the Huskies since 2014, earning a top-100 finish at the National Championships, while his seventh-place finish at the Northeast Regional was the highest in Northeastern program history.

Longosiwa is the fourth Hofstra runner to collect CAA Rookie of the Year honors in the past five seasons and the second straight from the Pride. The Eldoret, Kenya native was the top-finishing freshman at the CAA Championships, earning all-conference honors with a third-place performance (24:17.1). Longosiwa finished 33rd at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, running his first 10K in a time of 31:50.4. In addition, the freshman earned two individual victories this fall and posted the fastest 8K time in the conference with a mark of 23:17.3 at the Paul Short Run.

Ronan earns CAA Coach of the Year accolades after leading Stony Brook to the CAA team title during its inaugural season in the conference. It was a historic accomplishment as Stony Brook won its first CAA Championship across all sports. Ronan guided a league-high six Seawolves to All-CAA honors, including five top-10 finishes at the CAA Championship. Furthermore, two Stony Brook runners collected All-Region accolades as the Seawolves earned the conference’s top team finish at the NCAA Regional Championships, placing sixth in the Northeast Region.
