RICHMOND, Va. (December 15, 2022) – The CAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) recently completed a food drive as part of the Fall community service initiative. The food drive collection raised over 6,100 items, which will help hundreds of individuals throughout the footprint of the 13 CAA campuses.

“We appreciate the effort of the CAA SAAC members in conducting this important and worthwhile community service initiative,” CAA Commissioner Joe D’Antonio said. “Providing food to needy individuals shows true holiday spirit and is another example of the commitment of our student-athletes. In addition to their athletic and academic pursuits, we could not be more proud of all that our student-athletes are doing to support the communities of their institutions.”

During the CAA SAAC Fall Food Drive, each CAA institution collected non-perishable items during a two-week span. Each institution was tasked with partnering with a local organization to donate the collected food. A list of the locations that the food items were donated can be found below. During the Fall Food Drive, each institution had the flexibility to determine which events/competitions they used to collect items.

Towson University won the CAA SAAC Fall Food Drive Challenge collecting 1,578 items. Towson was able to provide 100 complete meals to the homeless community in Baltimore.  Monmouth University collected the second-most with 954 items to donate to The Nest (on-campus food bank) and Elon University placed third with about 600 items being donated to the United Way.

The CAA SAAC Fall Food Drive was created by the CAA SAAC reps as a way to impact the community around them while also all participating in the same cause. Each institution promoted the event on campus and encouraged student groups, faculty, staff and alumni to participate and support their school.
