KANSAS CITY (Aug. 16, 2022) – Five Colonial Athletic Association soccer players – three men’s and one women’s athlete from Hofstra and one from the Northeastern men’s team – have been named preseason players to watch by United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced in its leadup to the 2022 season.
Three Hofstra men’s players – forward
Ryan Carmichael, midfielder
Hendrik Hebbeker, and goalkeeper
Wessel Speel – along with Hofstra women’s defender
Anja Suttner and Northeastern men’s midfielder
Federico Tellez, earned preseason recognition as part of the coaches association’s new preseason lists for 2022.
All five players earned preseason All-CAA honors with Hofstra’s Hebbeker announced as CAA men’s soccer Preseason Player of the Year earlier Tuesday. The entire group of CAA honorees from United Soccer Coaches this August were first-team All-CAA selections in the 2021 season.
Both Hofstra programs climbed to the top 15 of the national rankings in 2021 on their way to CAA championships. The Pride men’s team advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, while the women’s squad also earned a victory in NCAA play. The Northeastern men won their most matches since 2012 to earn the No. 2 seed in the CAA Championship.
CAA soccer play begins with women’s openers on Thursday that include Hofstra receiving a visit from Fairleigh Dickinson (7 p.m.,
FloFC). The Northeastern and No. 17 Hofstra men begin their 2022 campaigns on Thursday, Aug. 25, when the Huskies host UMass (12 p.m.,
