RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 1, 2022) –
Cross country competition begins as the calendar turns to September, while Labor Day weekend features the opening Saturday of CAA play in men’s soccer, a conference clash in field hockey, and a packed schedule in women's soccer and volleyball.


 
Cross Country
CAA Cross Country is back with the 2022 season beginning this weekend. Ten teams will be in action as five teams get started on Friday. Elon plays host to the Elon Opener, which includes UNCW in the field. Additionally, Charleston and Northeastern stay local as the Cougars will participate in the Buccaneer Open, hosted by Charleston Southern, and the Huskies will compete in the Suffolk Short Course Classic. William & Mary rounds out the six teams competing Friday at the Charlotte Opener. On Saturday, Delaware will host the Delaware Opener, with Monmouth and Towson joining the Blue Hens at White Clay Creek State Park. Stony Brook also opens the year at home, hosting the Stony Brook Season Opener, while Hampton travels to Richmond for the Spider Alumni Open.  
 
Men’s Soccer
Saturday’s slate features five conference showdowns on FloFC. The day begins with a pair of 1 p.m. contests, as Charleston hosts Delaware and Monmouth welcomes UNCW. At 2 p.m., a Battle of Long Island commences when Hofstra and Stony Brook square off on Long Island. The evening docket features William & Mary’s visit to Drexel (6 p.m.) and Northeastern taking a trip down to Elon (7 p.m.). | Weekend Schedule
 
Field Hockey
CAA Field Hockey continues with five contests on Friday and six more on Sunday. Conference play coming early, highlights the weekend as newcomer Monmouth hosts No. 17 Delaware in a CAA contest on Sunday (1 p.m., FloLive). It will be a pivotal, early-season matchup for a pair of teams that look to challenge for the conference title this fall.
 
There will also be more opportunities to knock off nationally ranked foes, with three non-conference opponents in the NFHCA Top 25. William & Mary downed No. 19 Old Dominion in the Tribe’s season opener en route to William & Mary’s first 2-0 start since 2013. The Tribe will conclude the weekend with another tough test, visiting sixth-ranked Liberty on Sunday afternoon (1 p.m., ESPN+). The Blue Hens start the weekend by facing their second straight top-25 adversary when No. 17 Delaware visits No. 21 American University on Friday (1 p.m., ESPN+). Drexel will also continue a challenging start to its schedule as the Dragons host No. 16 Saint Joseph’s later in the day (4 p.m., FloLive). | Weekend Schedule
 
Volleyball
There will be plenty of action for your CAA Volleyball fix, with 32 matches starting Thursday through Sunday. All 11 teams will hit the court, including Hampton opening its season at the Henson Hawk Invitational, hosted by UMES. Hampton is one of nine teams hitting the road this weekend, with several high-profile opponents on the schedule. Charleston and Elon will face a pair of Power Five opponents this weekend as the Cougars have Texas Tech (Friday, 3:30 p.m.) and Georgia (Saturday, 10:30 a.m., SECN+) on the docket, while the Phoenix play Tennessee (Friday, 4 p.m.) and NC State (Saturday, 2 p.m., ACCNX). Northeastern will face Duke (Saturday, 10 a.m., ACCNX) on the road, while Towson and Stony Brook will host Big Ten foes. The Seawolves are set to host Maryland on Friday (6:30 p.m.), and the Tigers entertain Rutgers on Saturday (7 p.m.), with both matches available on FloVolleyball. | Weekend Schedule     
 
Women’s Soccer
The Thursday schedule begins with morning soccer in Ohio, as Stony Brook faces Cincinnati to start an eight-game day (11:30 a.m., ESPN+). Drexel will visit Duquesne in a matinee (1 p.m., ESPN+) before a six-game night slate includes four games on FloFC, highlighted by Elon welcoming RV/No. 17 NC State (7 p.m.). Delaware, UNCW, and Towson will host 7 p.m. contests, while William & Mary and Hofstra hit the road. In Friday’s action, Northeastern heads north to face New Hampshire (6 p.m., ESPN+) and Charleston gets a visit from Longwood (7 p.m., FloFC).
 
Ten teams are in action Sunday with seven games on FloFC. The day begins at noon when UNCW hosts High Point and wraps up with night games in Towson (6 p.m.) and Elon (7 p.m.). On the road, Hofstra travels to the Ocean State for a clash with RV/No. 23 Brown (3 p.m., ESPN+). | Weekend Schedule
