#CAALax in the PLL Playoffs

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (Sept. 2, 2022) – Ten Colonial Athletic Association men’s lacrosse alumni and three former coaches will represent the CAA in the Premier Lacrosse League playoffs, beginning Saturday, September 3 in Boston.
Four Hofstra alumni, two former student-athletes apiece from Delaware and UMass, as well as one graduate each from Fairfield and Towson, are on PLL playoff team rosters. Additionally, two former Drexel coaches and one former Fairfield coach occupy ranks among the coaching staffs.
The playoffs commence on Saturday at noon, with the second-seeded Chrome going head-to-head with the seventh-seeded Chaos. On the Chrome is two CAA alumni, including former CAA Defensive Player of the Year
Sean Sconone of UMass, who has 133 saves and a .540 save percentage this season.
Brendan Kavanagh, a Hofstra graduate, is also on the Chrome’s roster.
Following at 2:30 p.m., third-seeded Archers LC will face sixth-seeded Redwoods LC. The Archers are coached by
Chris Bates, a two-time CAA Coach of the Year recipient at Drexel, roster
Will Manny formerly of UMass, and
Frankie Labetti, a Fairfield alum. Manny ranks second on the team with 33 points, scoring 16 goals and recording 17 assists. Labetti has gone 19-of-51 and scooped nine ground balls during his rookie season. The Redwoods also have a former Drexel coach on the staff,
Chris Collins, in addition to defenseman
Finn Sullivan, who played collegiately at Hofstra. Sullivan has six caused turnovers and seven ground balls this season.
The final game of the first round is at 5:10 p.m. and features fourth-seeded Atlas LC and fifth-seeded Waterdogs LC. Towson’s
Koby Smith and Hofstra’s
Jack Concannon are on the Atlas roster, while a pair of Delaware alumni
Matt DeLuca and former CAA Offensive Player of the Year
Charlie Kitchen are on the Waterdogs, coached by former Fairfield head coach
Andy Copelan. Concannon has 125 saves and a .550 save percentage on the year, while DeLuca has made 44 saves, posting a .440 save percentage. Kitchen recorded his first professional goal earlier this season, while Smith has recorded five points, 11 ground balls and three caused turnovers in his rookie campaign.
All three first-round matchups can be seen on ESPN+. The winner of Atlas LC and Waterdogs LC will advance to face top-seeded Whipsnakes LC on Sunday, September 11, at 3:30 p.m. The winners from each of the other two first-round games will advance to face each other at 1 p.m. prior to the second semifinal on Sunday.
