RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 21, 2022) – Towson graduate student Julian Gonzalez and Elon freshman Ashley Lafontaine are the Colonial Athletic Association Golfers of the Week for their recent performances.
 
MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Julian Gonzalez, Towson
Graduate Student | San Jose, Costa Rica / Berkeley Academy
Gonzalez tied for eighth at the Hartford Hawk Invitational, played at Bull’s Bridge in Connecticut. The graduate student’s effort was driven by a career-low 66 in the second round, good for the third-best round in the 95-player field, with seven birdies. Gonzalez was even in the first round and carded a final-round 73 to help lead the Tigers to a second-place finish.
 
WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Ashley Lafontaine, Elon
Freshman | Ottawa, Ontario
Lafontaine birdied the final hole of the Elon Invitational to capture medalist honors Tuesday at 2-under while contributing to a 25-shot win in team competition for the Phoenix. The freshman from Canada went 75-68-68 at Alamance Country Club to finish first after beginning the final round in sixth. The Phoenix as a team featured three of the tournament’s top four players.
 
Men’s Notes
Drexel was eighth and William & Mary tied for 11^th at the River Run Collegiate in North Carolina … The Dragons’ Oscar Maxfield and Drue Nicholas finished in a tie for seventh at 1-under, while reigning Player of the Week Matthew Feinstein gave the Tribe an 11^th-place performance … Towson placed second at the Hartford Hawk Invitational with Julian Gonzalez earning an eighth-place finish at 5-under powered by a second-round 66 … Monmouth will play Wednesday at the Wagner Intercollegiate in New Jersey.
 
Women’s Notes
Elon won its home tournament with freshman Ashley Lafontaine collecting medalist honors at 2-under thanks to back-to-back 68s in the final two rounds … William & Mary followed the Phoenix in second with Sarah Houle one shot back in second place and North Carolina A&T was ninth, led by Vileska Gelpi … Hofstra won the three-team Saratoga Invitational in its season debut with Savannah Weyrauch even in the 36-hole event to earn medalist accolades … Delaware placed ninth at the Badger Invitational in Wisconsin with a top-15 performance from Alisa Khokhlova …  Towson finished 12^th at the Nittany Lion Invitational; Odette Font Garcia tied for 11^th.
