RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 22, 2022) – Six games Thursday kick off conference competition in Colonial Athletic Association women’s soccer, while the fourth weekend of men’s league action and second of volleyball provide an action-packed penultimate weekend of September.

Women’s Soccer | Watch on FloFC
Conference play begins in CAA women’s soccer with six games Thursday night and two matchups of teams with great showings in the non-conference portion of the schedule highlight the first day.

In Maryland, 7-1 Monmouth visits 7-1-1 Towson (6 p.m., FloFC). Both sides posted six shutout victories in non-league action and both are undefeated in the month of September. The Hawks are on a four-match winning streak, while the Tigers have won six straight by a scoring margin of 18-1. Down in the Lowcountry, two more teams off to strong starts in 2022 meet up as Charleston hosts Drexel (7 p.m., FloFC). The Dragons enter league play undefeated at 5-0-3 and host a Cougars side that joins Monmouth and Towson with 20-plus goals entering the week.

Towson and Charleston will be joined by Elon, Hofstra, UNCW, and Stony Brook as hosts of two games in the conference season’s opening week. The two Long Island venues will host the two Virginia members, while the Phoenix and Tigers welcome Northeastern and Monmouth, and the Seahawks and Cougars earn visits from Delaware and Drexel. All six matches Thursday night and all six Sunday afternoon can be seen on FloFC. | Weekend Schedule

Volleyball |  Watch on FloVolleyball
The opening weekend of conference play saw four teams start 2-0 in the CAA standings. There are two sides to the coin for this weekend’s conference slate, featuring a few first-time CAA matchups as well as a pair of old-timers going head-to-head. Hampton hosts Delaware, Hofstra entertains North Carolina A&T and Towson travels to Stony Brook in a trio of first-time CAA showdowns. The Blue Hens and Pirates have never faced off on the volleyball court, nor have the Pride and Aggies. The Tigers and Seawolves have played the past two seasons in non-conference competition and six times overall but will square off as conference foes for the first time this weekend.

On the flip side, Charleston opens conference action by visiting UNCW this weekend in a series that dates back to 1989. The Cougars lead the all-time series 26-11 and have had the recent success, winning 10 of the last 11; however, UNCW enters the matchup after winning its first CAA Opener since 2018, splitting with William & Mary last weekend. The Tribe heads on the road to visit Elon in the only matchup this weekend between teams who both earned a conference win in their first CAA series. The Phoenix started conference play 2-0 for the second consecutive season, while William & Mary comes in having won six of its last seven. Elon holds a 12-8 advantage in the all-time series, but the Tribe won three of the four matchups in 2021. | Weekend Schedule

Men’s Soccer | Watch on FloFC
The fourth Saturday of men’s soccer conference matches sends four of the top five teams in the CAA on the road. UNCW, which earned a midweek draw in Chapel Hill behind another shutout from Gabriel Perrotta and the Seahawk defense, travels up to Newark to take on a Delaware side in search of its first CAA victory (1 p.m., FloFC). Blue Hens freshman Sam Donnellan is tied for the league lead with four goals this season.

Charleston has its most points in conference play since 2017 and is tied with the Seahawks atop the table. The Cougars will be in Philadelphia to face Drexel (1 p.m., FloFC), while Elon is at Monmouth (1 p.m., FloFC), Hofstra visits William & Mary (7 p.m., FloFC) in a matchup of teams one point back of the league lead, and Northeastern is on Long Island for the second straight weekend, this time out in Suffolk County to take on Stony Brook (4 p.m., FloFC). | Weekend Schedule

Field Hockey | Watch on FloLive
It’s the final full weekend of non-conference play in CAA Field Hockey as teams gear up for conference matchups next weekend. Six of the nine games on the schedule this weekend feature CAA teams playing on their home turf. On Friday, Hofstra hosts Sacred Heart (3 p.m., FloLive) in the afternoon before Drexel entertains Rider (5 p.m., FloLive) during the evening. On Sunday, William & Mary gets things started at 11 a.m., welcoming Central Michigan (FloLive) to Williamsburg, while Northeastern entertains Vermont (NESN+/FloLive) and Delaware hosts No. 12 Saint Joseph’s (FloLive) at noon. Monmouth concludes the weekend playing host to Wagner at 1 p.m. | Weekend Schedule

Cross Country
Four CAA Cross Country teams will be in action this weekend, with a pair of teams competing in the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown. Northeastern stays local and will be joined by Monmouth, participating in the 45-team event hosted by Boston College at Franklin Park. The field features 24 women’s teams, including a pair of nationally ranked squads and two receiving votes, in addition to 21 men’s teams, with three top-20 teams toeing the line. Additionally, Delaware hits the road to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota, while Hampton heads to Princess Anne, Md., for the Maryland Eastern Shore Farm Run.

Swimming & Diving
UNCW will host Army for a dual meet at Allen Natatorium on Saturday morning as the CAA men's defending champion is one of the first teams into the pool into 2022-23. Northeastern will be in Burlington on Saturday to face Vermont in the Huskies' season opener.
