CAA Cross Country Weekly Awards – Sept. 27

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 27, 2022) – Northeastern swept the Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country weekly awards following strong performances by the Huskie men and women at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown. Abigail Hassman earned CAA Women’s Runner of the Week honors, and Alexander Korczynski garnered CAA Men’s Runner of the Week accolades.
WOMEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Abigail Hassman, Northeastern
Junior | Foxborough, Mass. / Foxborough HS
Hassman set a Northeastern program record with a time of 17:28.4 in the 5K at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown. She earned a top-10 finish, placing sixth overall out of 164 competitors, and led the Huskies to a runner-up finish in the team standings. Behind Hassman’s performance, Northeastern finished ahead of the likes of No. 20 Harvard and No. 21 Gonzaga, as well as Syracuse, receiving votes in the national rankings.
MEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Alexander Korczynski, Northeastern
Graduate | Willimantic, Conn. / Windham HS
Korczynski earned his second individual victory this season with a first-place finish in the 8K at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown. The graduate student completed the course in a time of 23:51.7, establishing the top time in the conference this season. Korczynski’s finish led Northeastern to a third-place finish in the team standings as the Huskies outperformed a pair of nationally ranked teams in No. 15 Harvard and No. 20 Syracuse.
Women’s Notes
Delaware competed in the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by Minnesota, with Nina Sgambelluri pacing the Blue Hens in her first career 6K (52nd/21:56.0) … Jordan Mozie earned a runner-up finish to lead
Hampton at the UMES Farm Run. She posted a 5K personal record, completing the course in 18:56.2 …
Monmouth competed in the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown as Isabella Leak recorded a personal-best time of 18:43.4 (63rd) to lead the Hawks … Northeastern placed three runners in the top-20 at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown, with Tessa McClain (15th/17:43.8) and Ava Duggan (20th/17:54.8) joining Hassman.
Men’s Notes
Dugion Blackman paced
Hampton at the UMES Farm Run, earning a top-20 finish in the event (19th/29:07.0) … Monmouth had three men earn top-50 finishes at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown, with Declan McDonnell leading the way, finishing the 8K in 24:54.4 (29th) … Matthew Schaefer joined Korczynski, earning a top-20 finish for Northeastern at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown. Schaefer placed 18th overall with a personal-best time of 24:33.5.
