RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 28, 2022) – Colonial Athletic Association competition heats up with the calendar turning to October, as a full field hockey Friday is joined by the midpoint of league play in men’s soccer and weekends of competition in women’s soccer and volleyball. In addition, CAA Champions compete in Wilmington and the majority of conference cross country teams converge on the Lehigh Valley.

Field Hockey
Conference play gets fully underway in CAA Field Hockey this weekend, with three conference matchups on Friday. Monmouth, the lone team with a CAA win this season, will host No. 19 William & Mary at 3 p.m. (FloLive) as the Tribe opens its 2022 CAA slate. It will be the first-ever matchup between the schools as conference foes, but William & Mary will look to stay unbeaten against the Hawks, holding a 4-0 record in the all-time series. Also, at 3 p.m. (FloLive), Northeastern will visit Hofstra in the conference openers for both teams. The Pride looks for its first CAA-opening victory since 2018, while the Huskies are attempting to start 1-0 in conference play for the first time since 2017. The final conference matchup on the slate takes place at 5 p.m. (FloLive), featuring the longstanding rivalry between Drexel and Delaware. When the teams hit the turf at Fred P. Rullo Stadium, it will be the 25th straight season the teams have faced in a series dating back to 1985.

On Sunday, all seven teams will be in action for non-conference competition, including Towson playing host to Saint Louis (1 p.m., FloLive) for the Tigers’ lone contest this week. William & Mary returns to the commonwealth to face No. 7 Virginia (1 p.m., ACCNX) in a battle of top-20 teams as the Tribe looks to add a fourth, ranked win to its resume this fall. Additionally, Drexel looks to stay hot after winning four straight non-conference games in a Philadelphia rivalry against Temple (1 p.m., ESPN+). | Weekend Schedule

Men’s Soccer
The midway point of conference play approaches with the top seven teams separated by a total of two points. Elon, receiving votes for the second consecutive week in the United Soccer Coaches poll, is atop the table at nine points. UNCW is one point back with eight, followed by a five-team logjam of Hofstra, Drexel, William & Mary, Charleston, and Northeastern.

The schedule will begin with a Friday night clash between Stony Brook and Monmouth (7 p.m., FloFC) before three contests on Saturday, involving five of that seven-team group. UNCW visits Northeastern (6 p.m., FloFC), Elon hosts Drexel (7:30 p.m., FloFC), and Hofstra welcomes Delaware (5 p.m., FloFC). On Sunday, Charleston will host William & Mary (1 p.m., FloFC) in a game pushed back a day due to Hurricane Ian. Weekend Schedule

Women’s Soccer
Elon and Drexel emerged from the first weekend of conference action with six points and will face Thursday challenges before squaring off on Sunday. The Dragons’ unbeaten start to 2022 (7-0-3) will face some of its stiffest challenges so far this fall with visits from Towson on Thursday (6 p.m., FloFC) and a meeting with the Phoenix on Sunday (1 p.m., FloFC). Elon will start the week with a visit to Delaware on Thursday (7 p.m., FloFC).

Charleston will host Hampton on Thursday morning in a game moved up due to Hurricane Ian (11 a.m., FloFC) before five night games, including the aforementioned contests in Philadelphia and Newark. Monmouth will host Hofstra (6 p.m., FloFC) in a matchup of perennial NCAA Tournament qualifiers, Stony Brook takes a trip to Boston to face Northeastern (6 p.m., NESN+/FloFC), and UNCW squares off with William & Mary (7 p.m., FloFC).

Sunday’s slate will send Charleston to William & Mary (12 p.m., FloFC) before five 1 p.m. games highlighted by the showdown between Elon and Drexel and a battle of high-powered offenses when Stony Brook visits Monmouth. Both games, and five of six contests Sunday, can be seen on FloFC.  | Weekend Schedule

Volleyball
Four teams have gone unbeaten in conference play through the first two weekends of the CAA Volleyball schedule. The weekend’s matchups are highlighted by a showdown between two of those unbeaten teams. Charleston started its conference slate 2-0 last weekend and will host Delaware, who enters on a seven-match winning streak after beginning CAA play 4-0. The teams have split the previous eight contests, with Charleston winning four straight during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, while Delaware has won four in a row since then. Additionally, three first-time CAA matchups will occur with Stony Brook visiting William & Mary, North Carolina A&T traveling to Towson and Hofstra heading to Hampton. The final matchup on the slate has Northeastern returning to action as the Huskies entertain Elon. The Phoenix has started 3-1 in conference play but will have a tall task as Northeastern holds an 11-5 record in the all-time series and is 8-0 in matches played in Boston. | Weekend Schedule

Cross Country
The spotlight in the cross country world shines on Bethlehem, Pa., where Lehigh will host the 48th Annual Paul Short Run. Six CAA teams, including Delaware, Elon, Hofstra, Stony Brook, Towson and William & Mary, will participate in one of the largest cross country events worldwide. The competition features over 3,500 collegiate entries, with 146 women’s and 138 men’s teams slated to toe the line. On the women’s side, there are six DI teams ranked or receiving votes in the national poll, including four top-20 squads. The men’s race features five DI teams ranked or receiving votes with three top-25 programs. The second weekend of 2022-23 in the pool is highlighted by a conference showdown in Wilmington. UNCW hosts William & Mary in competitions involving both the men’s and women’s CAA Champions from last winter. The Saturday meet will follow the Seahawks’ visit from Tennessee on Friday.
