CAA Cross Country Weekly Awards – Sept. 6

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 6, 2022) – The Colonial Athletic Association has announced its first cross country weekly award winners for the 2022 season. On the women’s side, Leandra Lorenz of Elon was selected as the CAA Women’s Runner of the Week. For the men, Alexander Korczynski of Northeastern garnered CAA Men’s Runner of the Week accolades.
 
WOMEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Leandra Lorenz, Elon
Redshirt Junior | Kleinmachnow, Germany / Vicco von Bülow Gymnasium Stahnsdorf
Lorenz opened the season, earning an individual victory to lead the Phoenix to the team title at the Elon Opener. Lorenz finished the 4K course in a time of 13:22.3 as Elon topped the eight-team field, including in-state rivals Duke, East Carolina and CAA foe UNCW.
 
MEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Alexander Korczynski, Northeastern
Graduate | Willimantic, Conn. / Windham HS
The 2022 CAA Individual Champion had an impressive start to the season, running 15:07.7 to earn an individual victory at the Suffolk Short Course Classic. Korczynski finished 15 seconds ahead of the second-place runner, leading Northeastern to the team title at the 15-team competition.
 
Women’s Notes
Charleston placed five runners in the top 10 at the Buccaneer Open, led by Sophia Brown, who placed third (15:00.4) to earn a second-place finish as a team in their season opener … Delaware claimed the top three spots in its home invitational, including an individual victory by Sarah Daniels. She clocked in at 18:38.6 as the Blue Hens topped the four-team field
… Elon won the team title at its home invitational, claiming the top three places in the 4K race ... Hampton opened the season at the Spider Alumni Open, hosted by Richmond. Jordan Mozie earned a top-50 finish (49^th/14:56.8) to lead the Pirates … Monmouth began the year with three top-10 finishes at the Delaware Open, led by Marisa Kilgarriff’s fourth-place finish (18:47.7) … Kendall Hobbs finished 14^th (14:42.4) at the Elon Opener to lead UNCW in its opening competition … Northeastern won the team title at the Suffolk Short Course Classic as the Huskies claimed the top four spots in the 3K race. Ava Duggan earned an individual victory with a time of 10:31.9 … Stony Brook earned a share of the team title at its annual season opener as Fiona McLoughlin claimed the individual victory with a time of 14:15.4 … Beighley Avery was the top finisher for Towson at the Delaware Open, finishing eighth with a time of 19:06.3 … Freshman Catherine Garrison led William & Mary with a top-10 finish (9^th/17:59.1) in her collegiate debut at the Charlotte Opener.  
 
Men’s Notes
Jackson Wedge paced Charleston with a fifth-place finish (19:46.6) in the Cougars’ season opener at the Buccaneer Open … Zane Jackson was the top finisher for Elon as the Phoenix opened the season at the Elon Opener. He placed ninth in the 6K with a time of 18:35.8 … Monmouth placed all seven runners in the top 10 during its season opener at the Delaware open. Louis DiLaurenzio earned an individual victory in the 5K with a time of 15:45.7 … Sam Bland made his collegiate debut for UNCW and was the top finisher for the Seahawks at the Elon Opener (23^rd/19:52.8) … Northeastern claimed the top five spots at the Suffolk Short Course Classic en route to the team title in its season opener … Stony Brook swept the top three places at its home invitational, led by Robert Becker (18:48.3), as the Seawolves claimed the team title … Nate Jennings paced William & Mary at the Charlotte Opener, finishing the 5K race in a time of 15:27.9 to place 20^th.
