COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 7, 2022) – A pair of Colonial Athletic Association Field Hockey student-athletes received national honors Wednesday morning as Monmouth’s Aylin Aufenacker and Maddie George of William & Mary were recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as National Players of the Week.
Aufenacker was named the NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week and George collected NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week accolades after the duo was selected as CAA Co-Players of the Week on Monday.
Aufenacker led Monmouth to the program’s first-ever CAA victory as the Hawks topped No. 17 Delaware in overtime. The senior forward tallied two goals, including the game-tying goal with two minutes remaining in regulation and the golden goal in the 65th minute to give Monmouth the 3-2 victory. It was the first multi-goal performance for Aufenacker this season and fifth in her career. She ranks first in the CAA in points per game (2.33) while ranking second in the league in points (7) and assists (3).
George made 20 saves and posted a .870 save percentage last week, highlighted by a shutout of No. 6 Liberty on Sunday. The junior goalkeeper recorded a career-high 12 saves, 10 of which came in the second half and overtime, while posting a 1.000 save percentage in 69 minutes against the Flames, who entered the week as the nation’s top offense. George leads the CAA in goals-against average (1.12), saves (31), save percentage (.861) and shutouts (2). She is third in the country in shutouts, fifth in save percentage, 10th in saves per game (7.75) and 20th in goals-against average.
