The Weekend Preview - Sept. 8, 2022

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 8, 2022) – The Colonial Athletic Association looks for another big weekend on the field hockey turf, while men’s soccer conference play heats up, and volleyball and women’s soccer programs aim for more marquee victories in non-league action.
 

Field Hockey
For the first time since August 21, 2018, three CAA Field Hockey teams are nationally ranked, with William & Mary, Delaware and Monmouth earning recognition. The week three schedule is highlighted by five top-25 matchups. Delaware, ranked 24th, will face a pair of top-10 adversaries as the Blue Hens host No. 10 UConn (5 p.m., FloLive) on Friday before entertaining No. 8 Penn State (12 p.m., on Sunday). Monmouth entered the ranks at No. 25 after earning a ranked victory over Delaware in the CAA opener for both teams last Sunday. The Hawks welcome No. 7 Syracuse (12 p.m., FloLive) to town on Sunday after a showdown with No. 15 Rutgers (3 p.m., FloLive) on Friday. William & Mary is the highest ranked CAA team coming in at No. 21 after a pair of ranked overtime victories in the first two weeks of the season, including No. 19 Old Dominion and No. 6 Liberty. The Tribe wraps up the weekend with another tough test, traveling to No. 16 Duke (1 p.m., ACCNX) on Sunday. | Weekend Schedule 
 
Men’s Soccer
The second Saturday of men’s soccer CAA matchups will see all 10 teams in action with five games on FloFC. The day starts in North Carolina, where Elon hosts Stony Brook (2 p.m., FloFC) after the Seawolves downed preseason favorite Hofstra last weekend with two late goals in a Battle of Long Island.
 
The evening fixtures include two contests between teams that picked up three points last Saturday. Drexel and Northeastern meet in Brookline (5 p.m., NESN+/FloFC), while UNCW hosts Charleston (7 p.m., FloFC). Delaware and William & Mary will vie for their first points in conference play in Williamsburg, as will Hofstra and Monmouth in West Long Branch. | Weekend Schedule
 
Women’s Soccer
A Thursday matinee kicks off a 19-match weekend of CAA women’s soccer, as Delaware heads to Central Pennsylvania to face Saint Francis (2 p.m., NEC Front Row). Ten matches throughout the weekend will be available on FloFC, including a Thursday night Philly clash between Drexel and Temple (6 p.m.) and Towson hosting Bucknell (7 p.m.). Hampton is the lone team in action Saturday with a visit to Mount St. Mary’s (1 p.m., MountAthletics.com).
 
An 11-match Sunday is highlighted by two matchups against ranked opponents. Northeastern, which has won by a 1-0 margin three times this year, hosts RV/No. 20 Brown, while William & Mary visits No. 24 Georgetown (1 p.m., FloFC). Charleston, Delaware, and Drexel will host games in the afternoon, while Hofstra gets a visit from Oregon (7 p.m., FloFC) and Elon welcomes Longwood (7 p.m., FloFC) for those waiting all day for Sunday night. | Weekend Schedule
 
Volleyball: We have reached the final weekend for tune-ups before conference play in CAA Volleyball. There are 27 matches on the docket, including 20 opportunities to watch across FloVolleyball, ESPN+, ACC Network Extra and NEC Front Row. Five teams will host invitationals as Charleston, Elon, North Carolina A&T, Northeastern and William & Mary get to stay at home this weekend.  
 
Towson is off to a 7-0 start this fall, including a win over Big Ten foe Rutgers last Saturday. The Tigers will have another opportunity to knock off a Power Five opponent this weekend as Towson faces No. 7 Pittsburgh on Saturday (7 p.m., ACCNX). Hofstra, Northeastern and UNCW will also have a chance to go head-to-head with Power Five competition. On Friday, the Pride visits Syracuse (11 a.m., ACCNX), and the Huskies entertain Georgia (5 p.m., FloVolleyball). On Sunday, the Seahawks wrap up the weekend with a contest against Miami (2:30 p.m., FloVolleyball). | Weekend Schedule 
 
Cross Country
It’s a light weekend in CAA Cross Country, with just three teams competing on Friday. UNCW will stay local and host the UNCW Beach Blast while Stony Brook heads to Providence for the Friar Invitational. Additionally, Hofstra will open its season at the LIU Fall Festival on Long Island.
