RICHMOND, Va. (January 25, 2023) – The CAA announced its first weekly award winners for the 2023 season in men’s and women’s tennis. Honored on the men’s side were Delaware graduate student James Wilkinson, the UNCW doubles team of juniors Reece Falck and Bekhzod Rasamatov and the Elon tandem of freshman Oskar Antinheimo and junior Daniel Martin. Elon swept the women’s awards with senior Julie Ball, sophomore Miray Konar and freshman Helen Sarikulaya recognized.
 
CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
James Wilkinson, Gr., Delaware (Hertfordshire, England)

Wilkinson, a first-team All-CAA selection in 2022, picked up where he left off with a pair of victories at the #1 singles spot as Delaware went 1-1 against Bucknell (6-1) and Penn State (1-6). The grad student outlasted Bucknell’s Harrison Gold, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, to start the season. He earned the Blue Hens’ lone point at PSU by capturing a pair of tiebreakers in a 7-6 (4), 3-6, 7-6 (5) triumph over Loren Byers.

CAA Men’s Tennis Co-Doubles Team of the Week
Reece Falck, Jr., UNCW (Christchurch, New Zealand)
Bekhzod Rasamatov, Jr., UNCW (Tushkent, Uzbekistan)

Falck and Rasamatov, playing together for the first time in a spring match, knocked off Bar Botzer and Chris Rodesch of top-ranked Virginia, 6-4, at the #1 doubles position. The Seahawks battled well in doubles against the defending national champions, dropping a pair of 6-4 matches on the other courts.

CAA Men’s Tennis Co-Doubles Team of the Week
Oskar Antinheimo, Fr., Elon (Helsinki, Finland)
Daniel Martin, Jr., Elon (Letchworth, UK)
 
Antinheimo and Martin turned in a sensational performance, upsetting 30th-ranked Filippo Moroni and Juan Lopez of No. 14 Wake Forest, 6-2 at the #1 doubles position. The Phoenix also got a victory from its #2 tandem of Nicholas Campbell and Ahmed Hosni to earn the doubles point against an ACC opponent for the first time since 2019.

CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Julie Ball, Sr., Elon (Barcelona, Spain)

Ball got off to an impressive 2-0 start in singles as Elon split matches against 2nd-ranked North Carolina (2-5) and Campbell (6-1). Playing at the #5 slot, the senior rolled past North Carolina’s Lindsay Zink, 6-1, 6-1. She moved up to #4 against Campbell and topped Abbie Tyler, 6-2, 6-1.

CAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Miray Konar, So. Elon (Izmir, Turkey)
Helen Sarikulaya, Fr., Elon (Rockville, Md.)
 
Konar and Sarikulaya posted a 6-3 win over Campbell’s Tamsin Hart and Mialy Ranaivo at #3 doubles in Elon’s 6-1 team triumph over the Camels. Along with their success in doubles, Konar and Sarikulaya contributed with victories in singles.
