RICHMOND, Va. (January 31, 2023) – UNCW sophomore Sam O’Brien received CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week honors, while Delaware senior Mira Selling repeated as the Women’s Swimmer of the Week. Earning Men’s Diver of the Week was UNCW freshman Ethan Badrian and the Women’s Diver of the Week award went to UNCW sophomore Tatum Church.
CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Sam O’Brien, So., UNCW (Round Hill, Va.)
O’Brien shattered the UNCW school record in the 1000 free with a time of 9:08.27 in the Seahawks’ meet against nationally ranked NC State. The sophomore beat the previous mark, set in 2009, by 13 seconds. O’Brien also recorded a second-place effort in the 500 free (4:29.87) and third-place finish in the 200 back (1:46.38) versus the Wolfpack.
CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Mira Selling, Sr., Delaware (Dresden, Germany)
Selling repeats as Swimmer of the Week after tallying three individual event wins and setting a pool record as part of Delaware’s 400 free relay team in a victory over Towson. On Senior Day, she captured the 50 free (23.77), 100 free (50.66) and 200 IM (2:03.17). Selling also teamed with Erin Shema, Natalie Dobrzykowski and Nicole Chiappa to break the Delaware pool record in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:27.80.
CAA Men’s Diver of the Week
Ethan Badrian, Fr., UNCW (Silver Springs, Md.)
Badrian posted the second-highest score on the 3-meter board in UNCW history with 365.55 points to claim first place against nationally ranked NC State. The freshman completed the sweep by taking the top spot in the 1-meter competition with a score of 314.45.
CAA Women’s Diver of the Week
Tatum Church, So., UNCW (Greensboro, N.C.)
Church claimed first place on the 1-meter board with a career-best score of 295.0 in UNCW’s meet against nationally ranked NC State. The score was the program’s 2
nd-best all-time in the event. She also placed fourth in the 3-meter competition with a score of 265.50.
