CAA Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – Jan. 31

RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 31, 2023) – The CAA has announced its fifth edition of Indoor Track and Field weekly awards for the 2022-23 season. A pair of Elon teammates collected honors on the women’s side as Piper Jons was selected as CAA Track Athlete of the Week, and Madison George was named CAA Field Athlete of the Week. For the men, Northeastern sophomore Reed Cherry earned CAA Track Athlete of the Week honors, and Monmouth redshirt sophomore Dalton Yeust received CAA Field Athlete of the Week accolades.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Piper Jons, Elon
Junior | Sprints | Ijamsville, Md. / Urbana 
Jons recorded a league-leading time in the 200m, a season-best mark in the 400m and helped the Elon 4x400m relay squad to a season-best performance at the Bob Pollock Invitational hosted by Clemson. The junior sprinter recorded an indoor personal record of 24.32 in the 200m to establish the conference’s top time in the event this year. Jons finished third in the 400m, posting a time of 55.34, which ranks second in the league this season. Finally, she was the anchor leg on Elon’s 4x400m relay team that recorded a time of 3:49.66. 
 
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Madison George, Elon
Senior | Pole Vault | Fountain Hills, Ariz. / Fountain Hills HS
George set a season-best clearance in the pole vault at the Bob Pollock Invitational, recording the top mark in the CAA this season. The senior from Fountain Hills, Ariz. cleared 3.81m (12-06.00) to sit atop the conference charts.  
 
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Reed Cherry, Northeastern
Sophomore | Distance | Littleton, Mass. / Littleton HS
Cherry broke the Northeastern program record in the 800m at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic, recording a league-leading time of 1:47.84. The sophomore took second in the competition, while his personal-best mark is the 12th fastest time in the NCAA this season. 
 
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Dalton Yeust, Monmouth
R-Sophomore | Pole Vault | Tunkhannock, Pa. / Tunkhannock HS 
Yeust set a Monmouth program record in the pole vault, winning the event at the Monmouth Winter Classic on Sunday. The redshirt sophomore cleared 4.92m (16-01.75) for a new lifetime best and established the top mark in the conference this season. 
 
Women’s Notes
Delaware The Blue Hens split their roster between a pair of meets in Pennsylvania, competing in the Penn State Open and the Bison Open and Multi. Aja James headlined the weekend by setting a new program record in the 60m dash with a time of 7.54. The mark ranks second in the CAA this season … Elon – The Phoenix traveled to the Bob Pollock Invitational hosted by Clemson. Meghan Wilcox reset her program record in the 60m, posting a time of 7.61, which ranks third in the conference … Hofstra – The Pride returned to the track for its first competition in 2023, participating in the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic. Jordyn McDonnell established a new program record in the 3000m, with a personal-best time of 9:41.13. She shaved over 30 seconds off her previous lifetime best, and the mark ranks fourth in the CAA this season … Hampton – The Lady Pirates took a trip up north to the Armory, competing in the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge. Dejah Grant recorded a season-best time of 56.11 in the 400m, which ranks fourth in the conference, and was on Hampton’s 4x400m relay team that ran a season-best 3:47.80, the third-fastest time in the CAA this season … Monmouth – The Hawks sent several athletes to the Bison Open and Multi before hosting the Monmouth Winter Classic. Isabelle Warren won the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 12.10m (39-08.50), a mark that ranks second in the conference … Northeastern – The Huskies split athletes between the Riverhak Invitational and BU John Thomas Terrier Classic. Gianna Rao continued her impressive season with her third win in the weight throw (19.95m) … Stony Brook – The Seawolves competed in the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge over the weekend. Fiona McLoughlin recorded a league-leading time of 9:29.17 in the 3000m. It was a personal best for the junior, who took second in the event … Towson – The Tigers returned to Pennsylvania for the Penn State Open. Cristal Cuervo won the 200m with a time of 24.40 and posted a season-best time of 55.65 in the 400m. In the CAA ranks, she is second and third in each respective event … William & Mary – The Tribe competed for the second week in a row, participating in the Penn State Open. Arianna DeBoer recorded a personal record in the mile with a time of 4:53.08, which ranks second in the conference this season.
 
Men’s Notes
Hofstra – The Pride participated in the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic in its first competition of 2023. Abraham Longosiwa recorded a league-leading time of 13:47.70 in the 5000m. It marks a personal record for the freshman, who is the only runner in the conference to post a sub-14-minute time in the event this year … Hampton – The Pirates were in action for their fifth competition this season at the Armory for the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge. Dugion Blackman won the 800m with an indoor personal-best time of 1:49.75. The mark ranks second in the CAA and is 43rd in the NCAA this season … Monmouth – The Hawks hosted the Monmouth Winter Classic after sending a few athletes to the Bison Open and Multi at Bucknell. Ahmad Brock recorded a personal-best mark of 7.14m (23-05.25) to win the long jump. The leap is tied for third in the CAA, while Brock holds the league-leading mark in the triple jump (14.49m) … Northeastern – The Huskies competed in a pair of meets over the weekend, sending athletes to the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic and Riverhawk Invitational. Noah Sweeney recorded personal records in the 60m and 200m, running 6.83 and 21.89, respectively. His time in the 60m is tied for second in the league … Stony Brook – The Seawolves were in action at the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge. Robert Becker established to conference’s top time in the mile this season, finishing the event in 4:00.02 … William & Mary – The Tribe competed in the Penn State Open over the weekend. Sam Pritchard ran a person-best 4:06.97 in the mile. The time ranks sixth in the CAA this season.
