CAA Cross Country Weekly Awards – Oct. 10

RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 10, 2023) – The CAA has announced its fifth cross country weekly award winners of the 2023 season. Hofstra swept the honors as graduate student Jordyn McDonell was named CAA Women’s Runner of the Week, and freshman Daniel Torrillo earned CAA Men’s Runner of the Week accolades.
WOMEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Jordyn McDonnell, Hofstra
Graduate | Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y. / Sachem North
McDonnell broke the Hofstra program record in the 5K en route to an individual victory at the Metropolitan Championships. The graduate student completed the course in a personal-best time of 17:09.5 to top the 117-participant field by over 20 seconds.
MEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Daniel Torrillo, Hofstra
Freshman | Morganville, N.J. / Marlboro
Torrillo made his collegiate debut, earning a top-five finish at the Metropolitan Championships. The freshman placed fourth in the 8K race, covering the course at Branch Brook Park in 25:04.5.

Team Notes
Campbell: The Camels completed their fourth meet this fall at the Royals XC Challenge. Alitza Betancourt Dennard paced the women in the 5K (19:01.72), and Hudson Hayes was the top finisher for the men in the 8K (27:03.17).
Charleston: The Cougars also participated in the Royals XC Challenge, with their women’s squad earning a third-place finish in the team standings. Rhian Purves ran to a top-10 finish in the 5K race, placing ninth in 18:05.8 to lead Charleston for the fourth time in as many meets this season. Mitchel Drees was the top finisher for the men in the 8K (25:55.23).
Hofstra: The Pride ran to a fourth-place finish in the men’s team race at the Metropolitan Championships. Brian Beck joined Torrillo in the top 10, finishing 10th in 25:53.0.
North Carolina A&T: The Aggies competed at the Cedric Walker HBCU XC Challenge at the Great American Cross Country Festival. A&T placed two women in the top three of the 5K race, and its top finisher on the men’s side placed top-five. Fajr Kelly paced the women, finishing second (19:17.7), and Ryan Prioleau was third (19:24.9). For the men, Kylan Willis ran a personal-best 25:23.7 to place fourth.
Northeastern: The Huskie women won the team title at the New England Championships for the first time in program history. Northeastern placed three runners in the top five, led by Isa Meyers, who ran to a runner-up finish with a time of 18:24.9.
