CAA Field Hockey Weekly Awards – Oct. 23

RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 23, 2023) – The CAA has announced its field hockey weekly award winners following the ninth week of the 2023 season. William & Mary graduate forward Lauren Curran was named CAA Player of the Week, and Northeastern freshman forward Alex Mega earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors.

Curran totaled six points on three goals over the weekend, helping William & Mary clinch a berth in the CAA Tournament. On Friday, the graduate forward scored two goals in a 3-2 win over first-place Monmouth, including the game-winning goal in the 39th minute to secure a postseason bid for the Tribe. Curran’s second-half goal was the only score after halftime and marks her first multi-goal effort this fall. On Sunday, Curran added one goal against La Salle, tying the game in the 18th minute, although W&M would eventually fall 3-2 in the matchup.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Alex Mega, Northeastern
Freshman | Forward | East Greenwich, R.I. / East Greenwich
Mega tallied five points on two goals and one assist in a 2-1 week for Northeastern. The freshman forward scored back-to-back goals in the second quarter against Hofstra, helping the Huskies to a 6-2 victory as Northeastern clinched a berth in the CAA Tournament. It marks the first career multi-goal effort for the freshman from East Greenwich, R.I. Mega followed the performance by recording an assist on the game-winning goal in the 41st minute against Maine to conclude the weekend.
