CAA Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards - Oct. 31

RICHMOND, Va. (October 31, 2023) – UNCW freshman William Carrico and Towson senior Brian Benzing shared CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week honors, while Towson sophomore Aidan Clark was named the CAA Men’s Diver of the Week. Towson freshman Addie Scott earned Women’s Swimmer of the Week accolades, and Towson sophomore Shannon Parrau was chosen as the Women’s Diver of the Week.
CAA Co-Men's Swimmer of the Week
Brian Benzing, Sr., Towson (Ellicott City, Md.)
Benzing continued his outstanding season, setting three meet records and resetting his top times in the conference in four events as he earned Swimmer of the Meet honors at the Thomas Murphy Invitational. The senior posted a time of 52.71 in the 100 breast, which is the 5
th-fastest in Division I this season, and a time of 1:57.97 in the 200 breast, which ranks 20
th. He touched the wall in 1:47.19 in the 200 IM, which ranks 23
rd nationally, and won the 200 free in a league-best time of 1:38.72.
CAA Co-Men’s Swimmer of the Week
William Carrico, Fr., UNCW (Durham, N.H.)
Carrico won a pair of individual events to help UNCW knock off Duke, 152.5-145.5, last Friday, which gave the Seahawks victories over an ACC team and a SEC team (South Carolina) in the same season for the first time in program history. The freshman helped put UNCW ahead in the meet with a victory in the 500 free (4:34.54), and he also won the 400 IM (4:01.20). Carrico has the CAA’s top times in both events this season and has eight individual wins.
CAA Men’s Diver of the Week
Aidan Clark, So., Towson (Ellicott City, Md.)
Clark posted a second-place finish on the 3-meter board with a score of 238.35 at the Thomas Murphy Invitational. He was also third in the 1-meter competition with a score of 233.85.
CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Addie Scott, Fr., Towson (Nottingham, Pa.)
Scott posted two first-place and three second-place efforts at the Thomas Murphy Invitational last weekend. The freshman registered the top time in the CAA in three different events, winning the 200 free (1:50.72) and taking second in the 200 back (2:01.82) and 500 free (4:57.52). Scott was also part of the Tigers’ winning 400 medley relay team and second-place 800 free relay team.
CAA Women’s Diver of the Week
Shannon Parrau, So., Towson (Germantown, Md.)
Parrau set meet records and reached NCAA Zone cuts on both the 1 and 3-meter boards at the Thomas Murphy Invitational. The sophomore scored 290.40 points in the 1-meter competition and 288.95 points in the 3-meter competition to earn Diver of the Meet recognition.
