CAA Field Hockey Weekly Awards – Oct. 9

RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 9, 2023) – The CAA has announced its field hockey weekly award winners following the seventh week of the 2023 season. Monmouth junior forward/midfielder Jess Tucker earned CAA Player of the Week accolades, and Northeastern freshman forward Alex Mega received her second straight CAA Rookie of the Week honor.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jess Tucker, Monmouth

Tucker tallied seven points on three goals and one assist, leading Monmouth to a 1-1 weekend and 3-0 start in CAA play. On Friday, Tucker recorded a season-best five points, scoring two goals and adding one assist in a 5-0 win over Towson. The junior scored the opening goal against the Tigers, and Monmouth never looked back. On Sunday, Tucker had the game-tying goal, pulling the Hawks even with No. 6 Rutgers entering the fourth quarter; however, Monmouth would eventually fall to the unbeaten Scarlet Knights.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Alex Mega, Northeastern

Mega recorded the game-winning goal in Northeastern’s 2-1 win over Delaware, as the Huskies defeated the Blue Hens for the first time since 2012. Tied at one, Mega received the entry at the top of the circle and lifted a backhand shot to the upper left corner of the cage. The goal gave Northeastern the advantage in the 49th minute, and the Huskies shut down Delaware for the remainder of the contest, including nine penalty corner attempts in the final six minutes. The freshman has scored in four straight matches and ranks fourth in the CAA with seven goals this fall.
