CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Nov. 18, 2023) – Northeastern senior women’s cross country runner Abigail Hassman and junior men’s cross country runner Benjamin Godish closed the 2023 CAA cross country season Saturday morning at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va. at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships.

On the first occasion since 2014 that the CAA was represented in the women’s 6K and men’s 10K at the NCAA Championships, Hassman earned a top-100 finish, and Godish placed inside the top 125.

Hassman posted the second-fastest 6K time of her career, covering the championship course in 20:38.6 to place 94th out of the 247 top runners in the country. The senior opened the first 3000m of a fast-paced race in the top 100 before dropping to 102nd at the 4K mark; however, she gained eight positions over the final 2000m to post the top finish for Northeastern – men or women – at the NCAA Championships since 2011. Hassman is the first woman in NU program history to qualify for the national meet.

Godish ran among the top 100 runners through the midway point before notching a 123rd-place finish among 255 competitors on the men’s side. The junior recorded a time of 30:45.6 in his fourth career 10K race. Godish is the second consecutive Northeastern men’s cross country runner to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

It marked the fourth time in the last five seasons CAA Cross Country has had an individual compete at the NCAA Championships.
