No. 14 Seed Hofstra to Host Yale in Sunday’s NCAA Men’s Soccer Second Round

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Nov. 18, 2023) – The Hofstra men’s soccer team will take on Yale in the Second Round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship on Sunday night on Long Island.
Hofstra (13-3-4) will play in its third-straight NCAA Tournament after winning the CAA title, 2-1, in overtime over Monmouth last Saturday night in Hempstead.
Pierce Infuso was named the Championship’s Most Outstanding Player. The Pride followed its CAA Championship by earning the No. 14 national seed and a bye into the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Pride, which ranks eighth in the RPI, sixth in total wins, and 11
th in won-lost-tied percentage, takes on a Yale (11-5-3) side that won the Ivy League title. The Bulldogs from New Haven advanced from Thursday’s First Round with a 1-0 win at Bryant on an 89
th-minute goal from midfield.
Hofstra has won five NCAA Tournament games since joining the CAA, most recently in 2021, when the Pride defeated Lipscomb, 4-2, in the First Round before routing No. 12 seed Penn State, 8-2, in the Second Round.
The Pride is the first CAA team to earn a national seed since James Madison in 2011 and eighth since the top 16 were first seeded in 2003.
Sunday’s game is slated for a 6 p.m. start; it can be seen on ESPN+.
