RICHMOND, Va. (November 20, 2023) – Villanova head football coach Mark Ferrante and UAlbany head football coach Greg Gattuso are among 20 finalists the 2023 Eddie Robinson Award, which is given annually to the national coach of the year in Division I FCS college football and presented by FedEx Ground.

Ferrante guided Villanova to a 9-2 overall record and a share of the CAA Football championship for the second time in the past three seasons with a 7-1 mark. The Wildcats earned a No. 8 national seed and a first-round bye in the NCAA FCS playoffs.

Gattuso led UAlbany to a 9-3 overall mark and a share of its first CAA Football championship with a 7-1 record. The Great Danes received a No. 5 national seed in the NCAA FCS playoffs and get a first-round bye.

The award, first presented in 1987 and in its 37th season, is named for legendary Grambling State coach Eddie Robinson. Past recipients of the Eddie Robinson Award include Mark Duffner, Erk Russell, Chris Ault, Jim Tressel, Houston Nutt, Andy Talley, Paul Johnson, Joe Glenn, Mike Ayers, Jerry Kill, Jerry Moore, K.C. Keeler, Deion Sanders, John Stiegelmeier and two-time recipients Mickey Matthews, Sean McDonnell and Craig Bohl.
